Which one Malta or

Scotland?
The Australian Foreign Affairs Department has advised
experts that by 2035 Australia will only be able to
support 35% of the current population. This means that
the majority of the Australian people will have to
migrate to a country in Europe. My partner Kelly and I
have chosen the countries Malta and Scotland to
research and to compare which one is more liveable for
Australians.

It plays a key role and sustains the Maltese
culture and society.
The official religion is Roman Catholic (98%).
Annual cultural celebrations revolve around
important religious events and festivals

society. Woman cook, clean
and look after the children.
Men provide for the family.
It drives how people dress and
behave.
Divorce is illegal in Malta.

The role of woman in the Maltese culture
hasnt changed over time.
Literacy rate is equal between males and
females.
The constitution gives females equal
rights and employment/educational
opportunities.

As a result of strong traditional Catholic
values married woman have been
discriminated against in the workplace.
(Expected to stop work when they got
married to allow the man to be the principal
provider.)
This is changing and married woman are being
encouraged to work.
At home there is a distinct division in labour
and responsibility. (Woman cook, clean and
bring up the children /men work to provide
for the family.)

Yes Malta is able to sustain the people and give them a good quality of life.

Disposable income for families has increased because
the government has broadened the tax band ( increase
of 75 euros/ house hold/ year)
The disposable income is an average of 84 % of earning
per household.
Free childcare centres have been set up to encourage
woman to work.
76% of people own their own homes.

Malta has a strong and one of the most stable
and prosperous economies in Europe.
Foreign trade, shipping, manufacturing and
tourism are the 4 major industries that
generate revenue for the country.

location and productive labour force add to
the strength and sustainability of the

No domestic resources.

Provide cheaper and cleaner

Install intelligent street lighting.
Encourage people to use public

Conclusion
In conclusion, Scotlands culture and society would be
better for Australians because it helps young people
develop their skills
But overall from an economic and environmental
perspective Malta is a better country to migrate to
because
It has a stronger and more stable economy, which will
make it more liveable than Scotland
Like Australia, Malta actively tries to resolve their
environmental issues.
