1. GENERAL
This specification includes the general information to be considered by a Bidder while preparing a proposal.
2. PROJECT LOCATION
The Cerro Verde mine is situated 30 km south of Arequipa, capital of the Province of Arequipa and second
largest city in Peru.
Project elevation: 2770 m (9090 ft) above mean sea level
Project latitude: 16 30 south
Project longitude: 71 36 west
3. SITE ACCESS
The mine is connected by paved roads to:
Arequipa, a distance of 30 km
Pacific port of Matarani, a distance of 100 km
Lima, the countrys capital, approximately a distance of 1100 km
The Southern Railway of Peru from Matarani to Arequipa passes within 12 km of the mine site.
4. SITE CONDITIONS
4.1 Existing Conditions
A 40 000 t/d heap leach, SX/EW facility and a 120,000 t/d sulphide concentrator are presently
operating at the site.

1. Earthquake loads are defined as the static horizontal and vertical forces equivalent in their

2. All buildings, structures, and components shall be designed for earthquake forces
according to International Building Code (IBC) and the following factors (per Seismic
Hazard Analysis Report prepared by URS Corporation dated August 23, 2011- Site-
Specific Seismic Hazard Evaluation for the Linga Valley Tailing Storage Facility for the
Cerro Verde Production Unit, page 6-1, Table 5 and Figure 30):

3. Seismic design for circular storage tanks at grade shall be according to Appendix E of
American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard 650.
4. Seismic dead load is the total dead or the dead load plus the equipment and process
operating loads, whichever is worse, and applicable portion of other loads as defined in
ASCE 12.7.2. The effectiveweight of materials on conveyor belts shall be taken as 80% of
LLn.
