El past simple se usa para describir acciones que se completaron en el pasado.
AFFIRMATIVE : se aade ed al verbo en infinitivo (I / you / he / she / it / we / you / they watched) NEGATIVE : I / you / he / she /it / we / you /they didnt watch INTERROGATIVE : did I / you / he / she /it / we /you / they watch? REGLAS VERBOS REGULARES : - verbos que acaban en e muda se aade d (bake-baked; hope- hoped) - verbos que acaban en consonante + y, la y se cambia por i antes de aadir ed (study- studied; copy-copied) - verbos formados por consonante + vocal + consonante, se dobla la ltima consonante al aadir ed (plan-planned, stop-stopped) REGLAS VERBOS IRREGULARES : hay que saberlos de memoria PISTAS : ago (hace), yesterday (ayer), last year/month/week/Sunday(el ao / mes / semana / lu- nes pasado), suddenly (de repente), when (cuando) : I was looking at the magazine when I saw Helen = Estaba mirando las revistas cuando vi a Helen

PAST CONTINUOUS (estaba comiendo) El past continuous hace referencia a acciones que se estaban desarrollando en el pasado. La accin del pasado continuo, que es la que dura, se ve interrumpida por la accin del pasado simple, que es la corta. AFIRMATIVA : I / he / she / it was eating - we / you /t hey were eating NEGATIVA : I / he / she /it wasnt eating - we / you /they werent eating INTERROGATIVA : Was I / he / she / it eating? Were we / you / they eating? PISTAS : At five o'clock (a las cinco), at that moment (en este momento) , while, as (mientras) : As we were going home, I looked at Helen = Mientras bamos para casa, mire a Helen
USED TO Se usa used to + verbo para hablar de habitos ya pasados y para hablar de estados pasados : HBITO : I used to play the guitar = Significa que antes tocabas la guitarra pero ya no. ESTADO : I used to live in London = Significa que antes vivas en Londres pero ya no. Se usa la misma forma con todas las personas. AFFIRMATIVE : I / you / he / she / it / we / they + used to + verbo NEGATIVE : I / you / he / she / it / we / they + didn't use to + verbo QUESTIONS : Did + I / you / he / she / it / we / they + use to + verbo?
PRESENT PERFECT Se usa para hablar de acciones que empezaron o acaban de suceder en el pasado y an continan en el presente. Equivale en castellano al pretrito perfecto. Se forma siguiendo este esquema : Presente simple del verbo TO HAVE (have, has) + Participio del verbo principal (I have bought a car = Yo he comprado un coche - I have lived in this city since 1980 = He vivi- do en esta ciudad desde 1980) La forma negativa se forma con la partcula de negacin "not" entre el auxiliar y el verbo principal (I have not done my homework = Yo no he hecho mis deberes) y la forma interrogativa se construye con el auxiliar al comienzo de la oracin, seguido del sujeto y del verbo principal (Have you been in Seville? = Has estado en Sevilla?) EXPRESIONES QUE SUELEN ACOMPAAR AL PRESENT PERFECT Just : Acabar de (Weve just arrived = Acabamos de llegar) Yet : an, todava, para la forma negativa (I havent finished it yet = No lo he acabado todava) Already : Ya, para la forma afirmativa (I have already finished it = Ya lo he acabado). For : Desde hace (I have lived here for three years = Vivo aqu desde hace tres aos). Since : Desde (We havent heard from her since last year = No hemos tenido noticias suyas des- de el ao pasado) Ever, never EXPRESIONES QUE SUELEN ACOMPAAR AL PAST SIMPLE Ago (cunto tiempo hace) : (Phil had an accident two months ago = Phil tuvo un accidente hace dos meses) Yesterday, last week / month / year, etc : (I saw Rachel yesterday = Ayer vi a Raquel) OJO - cuando hablamos de una accin que se inici en el pasado y contina en este momento, debemos uti- lizar el present perfect (Ricky has known Ann for eight months = Hace ocho meses que Ricky conoce a Ann) - En preguntas que se refieren a un momento concreto del pasado se utiliza el past simple (When did she leave? = Cundo sali? / Cundo ha salido? What did you say? = Qu dijiste? / Qu has dicho?)
COMPARATIVE AND SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVES - El comparativo y superlativo de los adjetivos monoslabos se forman agregando las terminaciones - er y -est (long = longer - longest) - Los adjetivos que terminan con vocal seguida de una consonante duplican la consonante final antes de agregar las terminaciones -er o est (hot = hotter hottest) - Los adjetivos de dos slabas que terminan en -y cambian la y por i y agregan las terminaciones -er o -est (pretty = prettier prettiest) - los adjetivos de dos o ms slabas (excepto aquellos terminados en -y) el comparativo y superlativo se forman con more y most (beautiful>>more beautiful>>most beautiful) - los comparativos y superlativos "irregulares" cambian totalmente (good >>better>>best - bad>> worse>>worst - far>>further>>furthest) - cuando se quieren comparar distintos grados de una cualidad, se usa than detrs del adjetivo en grado comparativo (Ann is prettier than Beth = Ann es ms guapa que Beth) - el superlativo exige colocar el artculo the delante del adjetivo (nice = the nicest hot = the hottest important = the most important) OJO : la preposicin in se utiliza con el adjetivo en grado superlativo para destacar a un miembro del grupo (Josh is the cleverest student in the class = Josh es el alumno ms inteligente de la clase) COMPARATIVES : (NOT) AS... AS; SO THAT / SUCH THAT (not) as... as : se usa para comparar dos cosas o personas (My trainers are as trendy as yours = Mis entrenadores estn tan de moda como los suyos - Cristiano is not as good as Messi = Cris- tiano no es tan bueno como Messi) so / such : so (tan, as, entonces) y such (semejante, tal, tan, tanto), suelen confundirse : - Con adjetivo sin sustantivo se usa "so" (so stupid = tan tonta - I like Miguel and Victoria. They are so nice = Me gustan Miguel y Victoria. Son tan agradables). - con adjetivo y sustantivo se usa "such" (such a stupid story = una historia tan tonta - I like Mi- guel and Victoria. They are such nice people = Me gustan Miguel y Victoria. Son personas tan agradables). - Tanto so como such refuerzan el significado de un adjetivo (It's a beautiful day, isn't it? It's so warm = Es un da hermoso, no? Est tan clido. - We enjoyed our vacation. We had such a good time = Disfrutamos nuestra vacacin. Tuvimos tan buen tiempo) - Con frecuencia decimos so ... that (tan ... que) y such ... that (tal ... que) (I was so tired that I went to bed at seven o'clock = Estaba tan cansado que fui a dormir a las 7 de la tarde - Manuel wor- ked so hard that he made himself sick = Manuel trabaj tan duro que termin enfermndose - It was such beautiful weather that we spent the whole day in the park = El tiempo estaba tan bueno que pasamos todo el da en el parque - The book was so good that I couldn't put it down = El li- bro era tan bueno que no pude dejar de leerlo - It was such a good book that I couldn't put it down = Era un libro tan bueno que no pude dejar de leerlo)
WILL/WONT (futuro) AFIRMATIVA : sujeto + will (ll) + infinitivo del verbo (Ill pone you tonight = te llamar esta noche) NEGATIVA : sujeto + wont + infinitivo del verbo (She wont be at the party today. Shes ill = Hoy no ir a la fiesta. Est enferma) INTERROGATIVA : Will + sujeto + infinitivo del verbo? (Will she be at the party? = Ir a la fiesta?)
GOING TO (predicciones, planes e intenciones) AFIRMATIVA : Sujeto + am / are / is + going to + infinitivo (Were going to see a film Saturday night = Vamos a ver una pelcula el sbado noche) NEGATIVA : sujeto + m not / isnt / arent (She isnt going to study at university next year = El ao que viene no va a ir a la universidad) INTERROGATIVA : Am / is / are + sujeto + going to + infinitivo (Are you going to see your cousins at the weekend? = Vas a ver tus primos el fin de semana?)
FIRST CONDITIONAL (se utiliza para las situaciones que son probables) If + Suj + Present simple, Suj + will / wont + Infinitivo (If you pass your exams,we will go out and celebrate = S apruebas tu examen, saldremos a cele- brarlo - If its too cold, we will wont go to the lake = S hace demasiado fro, no iremos al lago)
SECOND CONDITIONAL (se utiliza para las situaciones que no van a pasar, que son improba- bles) If + Suj + Past simple, Suj + would / wouldnt + Infinitivo (If I won the lottery, I would buy a car = S ganara la lotera, me comprara un coche - If he played, they wouldnt win the match = S l jugara, no ganaran el partido)
SHOULD (se utiliza para dar consejos sobre lo que conviene hacer) Suj + should / shouldnt + infinitivo (She should see a doctor = debera ir al mdico - You shouldnt wear this trousers = No debera llevar ese pantaln) Should + Suj + infinitivo? (What should I wear ? = Que debera llevar puesto?) I think (creo) a menudo se usa en combinacin con should (I think we should go to the party = Creo que deberamos ir a la fiesta)
PASSIVE (present simple) AFIRMATIVA : sujeto + am / is / are + participio pasado (The tres are cut in the springtime = Los rboles se talan en primavera) NEGATIVA : sujeto + m not / isnt / arent + participio pasado (Oranges arent grown in Sweden = Las naranjas no se cultivan en Suecia) INTERROGATIVA : Am / is / are + sujeto + participio pasado? (Is the fish cooked? = Hay que cocer el pescado?) RESPUESTAS BREVES : se usan las formas contractas (Yes, I am No, Im not, etc)
PASSIVE (past simple) AFIRMATIVA : sujeto + was / were + participio pasado (Sun cream was invented in 1936 = El filtro solar se invent en 1936) NEGATIVA : sujeto + wasnt / werent + participio pasado I wasnt invited to Alans party = No me invitaron a la fiesta de Alan) INTERROGATIVA : was / were + sujeto + participio pasado? (When was this sandwich made? = De cundo es este sandwich?) RESPUESTAS BREVES : se usan las formas contractas (Yes, I am No, Im not, etc) USOS DE LA VOZ PASIVA - cuando no se sabe o no importa quin realiza la accin (Fiat cars are imported from Italy = Los Fiat se importan de Italia) - para especificar quin realiza la accin (se usa by) (Coca-cola was invented by John Pemberton = La coca-cola fue inventada por John Pemberton)
RELATIVE CLAUSES THAT : Que / cual (a veces se puede usar that en lugar de who o which) - WHO : Quien / que (persona) - WHOSE : Cuyo - WHOM : A quien (Cuando va detrs de una preposicin, sino se usa who) - WHERE : Donde - WHEN : Cuando - WHICH : El cual
REPORTED SPEECH (estilo indirecto) El estilo indirecto se usa para informar a una persona de lo que ha dicho otra (He said that she was very pretty = l me dijo que ella era muy guapa). VERBOS MODALES : MAY / MIGHT / COULD (puede / podra) Les verbos modales may, might, could + be + ing se usan para expresar la posibilidad de que algo ocurra (Dan has gota n examen tomorrow. He may be studying at the library = Dan tiene un exa- men maana. Puede que est estudiando en la biblioteca Mum is not at home. She might be do- ing the shopping = Mam no est en casa. Puede que est hacienda la compra James is at the caf alone. He could be waiting for his friends = James est en el caf l solo. Puede que est esperando a sus amigos)
