Thesis title: Evolution of Contractional Orogenic Belts Through Time: a detailed study of the controls on exhumation
rates of orogenic belts through their associated basins
Purpose: To develop a better understanding of the evolution of contractional orogenic belts through the detailed study
of their associated basins, in particular to gain a better understanding of the effects of tectonic forces vs. erosion on
the exhumation of said belts using the central Andes in northwestern Argentina as a type example.
Project will involve detailed geologic mapping of the study area, sample collection for provenance studies, and apatite
fission track thermochronology
Undergraduate Research Mount Barcroft Pluton, Bishop, CA 2008
Collaborated with Dr. Eric Ferr (SIUC) on the design and implementation of a geophysical survey of the bulk
magnetic susceptibility (Km) of the pluton using portable susceptibility meters to test the validity of the previously
observed apparent relationship between Km and elevation as well as measuring the influence of intruding dikes on
the Km as a primary causes of magnetic fabric heterogeneity, team leader for half of personnel on project

Title: Spatial distribution of magnetic susceptibility in the Mt. Barcroft granodiorite, White Mountains, California:
implications for arc magmatic processes
Purpose: To determine the primary cause(s) of the heterogeneity in the magnetic fabric of the Mt. Barcroft
granodiorite as described previously by Michelsen (2003)
Conducted a sampling expedition at high elevation to collect a series of oriented samples to determine cause of
magnetic fabric heterogeneity, prepared samples and measured AMS for further analysis
