VOLUME OF CYLINDER: π ● radius2 ● height VOLUME OF 4 ● π ● radius3
VOLUME OF CUBE: side3 SPHERE: 3
VOLUME OF RECTANGULAR PRISM : length ● width ● height

CONVERSIONS USED:

1 in = 2.54 cm 1 cm3 = 1mL

PROCEDURE:
• Candle
o First, using a balance beam, I measure the mass of the candle which is 505
grams.
o Using a ruler, I measure the height and the diameter of the candle. The
height measures 6 inches and the diameter measures 2.8 inches.
o Divide the diameter by 2 because half of the diameter is equals to the
radius (r = d/2). The measurement of the radius is 1.4 inches.
o Convert 6 inches and 1.4 inches into centimeters. The new measurement
of the height is 15.24 centimeters while the new measurement of the
radius is 3.56 centimeters.
o Calculate the volume of the candle using the formula for the volume of
cylinder (found on the upper part of the paper). The measurement of the
volume of the candle rounded off to nearest hundredths is 606.48cm3
o Convert cm3 into mL.
o Calculate the density (using the formula on the upper part of the paper).
The measurement rounded off to nearest hundredths is 0.83g/mL.
• Rock
o Measure the mass of the rock using a balance beam which is 47g.
o On a beaker filled with 100mL water, place the rock and measure the
measurement of the water with the rock which is 120mL.
o Using the formula on finding the volume of irregular figures (found on the
upper part of the paper), I found out that the volume of the rock is 20mL.
o Find the density of the rock which results to 2.35g/mL
• Tennis Ball
o Calculate the mass of the tennis ball using a balance beam which is 37.2g.
o Using a ruler, measure the diameter of the tennis ball which is 2.3 inches.
o Divide the diameter by 2 because half of the diameter is equals to the
radius (r = d/2). The measurement of the radius is 1.15 inches.
o Convert 1.15 inches into centimeters. The new measurement of the radius
is 2.92 centimeters.
o Calculate the volume of the tennis ball using the formula for the volume
of sphere (found on the upper part of the paper). The measurement of the
volume of the tennis ball rounded off to nearest hundredths is 104.24cm3
o Convert cm3 into mL.

2
o Calculate the density (using the formula on the upper part of the paper).
The measurement rounded off to nearest hundredths is 0.36g/mL.
• Dice
o Measure the mass of the dice using a balance beam which is 130g.
o Using a ruler, measure a side of the dice which is 4 inches.
o Convert 4 inches into centimeters. The new measurement of the side of
the dice is 10.16 centimeters.
o Calculate the volume of the dice using the formula for the volume of cube
(found on the upper part of page 2). The measurement of the volume of
the dice rounded off to nearest hundredths is 1048.77cm3
o Convert cm3 into mL.
o Calculate the density (using the formula on the upper part of the paper).
The measurement rounded off to nearest hundredths is 0.12g/mL.
• A Piece of Wood
o Using a balance beam, I measure the mass of a Piece of Wood which is
203 grams.
o Using a ruler, I measure the height, length, and width of the candle. The
height measures 2 inches, the length measures 4 inches and the width
measures 3 inches.
o Convert 2 inches, 4 inches, and 3 inches into centimeters. The new
measurement of the length of the dice is 10.16 centimeters, the height of
the dice is 5.08 centimeters, and the width of the dice is 7.62 centimeters.
o Calculate the volume of the dice using the formula for the volume of
rectangular prism (found on the upper part of page 2). The measurement
of the volume of the piece of wood rounded off to nearest hundredths is
393.29cm3
o Convert cm3 into mL.
o Calculate the density (using the formula on the upper part of the paper).
The measurement rounded off to nearest hundredths is 0.52g/mL.
