Course Outline
Dedusting Principles
for Steel Plants
What it is
A training seminar with systematic repetition / expansion of knowledge for production operators, junior
production and maintenance managers respectively fresh graduates in theory and practice dedicated
to dedusting facilities in electric arc furnace steel making plants. This training course delivers the necessary
technical information needed to manage (understand, lead and make decisions) and operate dedusting
facilities in a steelmaking plant.
Who it is for
Production operators, junior production and maintenance managers, maintenance engineers and fresh
graduates responsible for dedusting equipment who wishes to gain basic and advanced understan-
ding of the dust separation mechanism and how to operate and maintain a dust collecting system.
What is required
Pre-qualication: Technical background.
What is in it
- EAF: Energy balance of electric arc furnaces
- Ducts: Design & layout, ow theory, routing
- Canopy hood: Design, size & shape
- Cooling systems: Comparison of common cooling facilities,
including evaporation coolers
- Simulation & modelling methods: Computer luid dynamic modelling (CFD),
FDM water model
- Bag house: Operation, maintenance and monitoring of bag houses
- Filter bags: Basic information about separation of dust from ue gas
- Fans: Evaluation, layout, calculation and placement of blowers
- Monitoring device: Selection, positioning and implementation
- Add on: Plant visit of Badische Stahlwerke (BSW) + shut-down
observation, best practice dedusting maintenance
