BS in Information Technology
August 29-31, 2013

Summary of Findings and Recommendations
AREA VII- LIBRARY
A. Strengths

1. The NVSU Bambang campus library is administered by a fulltime, licensed
librarian who is a graduate of a masters Degree in Library Science.
2. Library handbooks, collection development policy, flyers approved by NVSU
authorities are available.
3. The library adopts the Open shelf system of operation where the student and
faculty have greater access to the resources of the library.
4. There is a system of promoting and disseminating information about new
acquisitions, library facilities and services through a newsletter published every
semester.
5. Regular orientation for freshmen and transferees including high school students is
conducted by the librarians.
6. The approved increase on miscellaneous fees including library fee is a tangible
proof that university officials are supportive to the development of the library. This
will go a long way in financing the programs and activities of the library.
7. There is a functional, well set-up mini-library which serves the reading and
research needs of the students and faculty of the College of Engineering and
College of Industrial Technology.

B. Areas Needing Improvement
1. The head librarian does not occupy a teaching item.
2. The integrated library system is not yet operational.
3. Paid subscription to print journals is minimal.
4. The book collection in terms of titles is inadequate, especially on Cooperative
Development.
5. There are no support personnel to assist the librarians.
6. A photocopying machine is not available within the library premises.
C. Recommendations

1. The administration may consider the request of the head librarian occupying a
non-teaching item to be given a faculty rank considering the significance of the
work for the development of the institution and to enhance the image of the
position.

2. Although a library system for automation has been started, this maybe completed
and made operational as soon as possible to facilitate the encoding and retrieval
of information for research purposes and to comply with the library requirements
for higher level of accreditation.

3. While the library has an initial subscription to e-journals, subscription to print
journals including magazines is also necessary to comply with library standards.

4. The acquisition of books under the different curricular programs is necessary to
enhance the library collection; hence this may be done on a continuous basis.

5. If possible, the hiring of one (1) additional support staff may be considered to
assist in the charging and discharging of information sources, and other routinary
activities in the library. This is to give the librarians more time for the technical
work done in the library.

6. To enhance the services of the library, a functional photocopying machine maybe
installed.
