LO2 Understanding ethical and legal constraints within the media sector
Why is it important to consider ethical issues when production media?
Because when most people think of morals and ethics, they think of rules for distinguishing between right and wrong. When making a film, you should consider if the television channel you want to present it on will accept the terms within the content of the film, and what sort of channel will post it on their list. What if someone wants to make a complaint about the ethical standards of the film, if the film breaches the public system, like saying you have copyright material, what ideas you have.
It is important not to offend people because of the serious situations it can cause to the media, or the general public. If a show or production gets done for offending a large amount of people, it could lead to further investigations by media authorities and the creator or creators could be in serious risk of prosecution, and violence towards them from offended people. If it was a matter where it wasnt to the specific television channel, for example a childs show, this will be taken very seriously by people and this could cause the creator to face prosecution, charges, and could lead to them losing their jobs or position in whatever they are doing. Racism could be a very high factor in offending people, and the same consequences could occur for racism within a production.
How is gender represented in film?
In films women are resented as weaker people. In a lot of hero and action films, such as superman, spider man, James Bond, and other types of action films, a lot of women either get taken away, attacked, or even kidnapped to an extent, and is saved by the hero himself which is mainly a male character who is considered strong and muscular, or with even some type of power. I think that men and women should be presented equally, depending on what type of film it is. If the film is heroic action film, then the cases should be a man saving a women (the male being stronger than the female) as this type of context gives a passion and understanding to the audience watching, and provides good entertainment as well. If in another case where a women has heroic powers, then the situation can be swapped over, but this will give the audience a different entertainment outlook on the film. The representation in films are fair, there hasnt been any stereo typical films that have offended a great about of people, the ethics and genres of films are all dependent on what their type of target audience are.
What is the films act 1985?
The films act 1985 dissolved the British Film Fund Agency, ending the Eady levy system established in 1951.
What is the video recordings act 1984?
The video recordings act 1984 states that commercial video recordings offered for sale or for hire within the UK must carry a classification that has been agreed upon by an authority designated by the Home Office.

What would be the consequences for breaking copyright law?
The most common include monetary fines, loss of property, loss of freedom, or loss of employment. Copyright law violations involve someone attempting to profit from, distribute, or claim material to which they have no right to do so. Copyright is a material which only one author owns and only owns, which nobody is allowed to copy or base their production with very high amount of obvious similarities to that specific production without permission of the author of the original piece of production. It protects users rights, if somebody has come up with an idea for example and published in which the audience gets satisfaction or entertainment from, and somebody else copies, they can take credit or even profit from somebody elses original production, so copyright protects the original authors rights otherwise its just not fair. You can ensure it isnt broken by making it clear what consequences could be if the material the author has created is copied by making a list of them.
