LAW
ON AMENDMENTS TO THE LAW ON EDUCATION IN
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Article 1.
After Article 6, add article 6.a which reads:
Croatian Sign Language
Article 6.a
The Minister responsible for Education ust ta!e all appropriate steps to ensure that a
student who is deaf or hard of hearing is gi"en recognition and support of their
specific cultural and linguistic identit#, including the Croatian sign language and deaf
culture.$.
Explanation
This aendent inserts a pro"ision re%uired b# paragraph & of article '( of the )* Con"ention, which
pro"ides that persons with disabilities shall be entitled, on an e%ual basis with others, to recognition
and support of their specific cultural and linguistic identit#, including sign languages and deaf culture$.
The insertion of this aendent into the Schools Law will appl# this pro"ision to both priar# and
secondar# schools. Logic dictates that the new article should follow article 6, which pro"ides for
teaching in the Croatian language, and precede article +, which pro"ides for teaching in the language of
a national inorit#.
Article 2.
,n article '-, children with difficulties$ is deleted, and students with difficulties$ is
added.
Explanation
This aendent changes the terinolog# fro .children/ with difficulties to .students/ with
difficulties, which is the terinolog# used in the rest of the Law.
Article 3.
