HYPOTHYROIDISM

Hypo which means underactive and thyroid which is the thyroid gland,
often called as the UNDERACTIVE THYROID, is a common endocrine disorder in
which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.

SYMPTOMS:
- Fatigue
- Feeling cold
- Poor memory and concentration
- Constipation
- Weight gain with poor appetite
- Shortness of breath
- Hoarse voice
- Heavy periods (with later light periods)
- Abnormal sensation
- Poor hearing

In children, hypothyroidism leads to delays in growth and intellectual
development, which is called cretinism (a condition of severely stunted physical
and mental growth due to untreated congenital deficiency of thyroid
hormones) in severe cases.

DIAGNOSIS:
- Blood tests measuring thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSH) and thyroxine
levels

NOT ENOUGH IODINE in the diet is the most common cause of
hypothyroidism. Less common causes include: previous treatment with
radioactive iodine, injury to the hypothalamus or the anterior pituitary gland,
certain medications, a lack of a functioning thyroid at birth or previous thyroid
surgery.

Hypothyroidism can be well treated with MANUFACTURED LEVOTHYROXINE
(the dose is adjusted according to symptoms and normalization of the thyroxin
and TSH levels).
Another way to treat hypothyroidism is by eating food that is rich in iodine
and selenium

8 OUNCES LINGUINE
1 TEASPOON EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
2 CLOVES GARLIC, MINCED
1 SMALL YELLOW ONION, CHOPPED
PINCH OF RED-PEPPER FLAKES

Almond Flour Zucchini Apple Pancakes
The Ingredients
1 small zucchini, grated
1 small apple, grated
1 cup almond flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder (skip if you are doing GAPS)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
2-3 tablespoons almond butter (you can use any nut butter, really)
3 sprigs of fresh thyme, chopped
3 eggs
1 tablespoon honey (raw, unheated) or maple syrup (use honey if you are doing GAPS)
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
Italian Meat Casserole
Ingredients
Large casserole dish with a lid
Salt, peppercorns, dried herbs to taste
Bay leaves
A sprig of rosemary
Any of the following meat:
A leg or shoulder of lamb
A joint of pork
A joint of beef
A pheasant
2-4 pigeons
2 quails
A joint of venison
A whole chicken
Turkey legs
Mushroom Leek Stir Fry
The Ingredients
3 cups oyster mushrooms (you can also use shiitake), sliced and roots removed
1 cup sprouted beans (get them in a health store)
1 onion, sliced thinly
2 leeks, sliced to rings
3 cloves of crushed garlic
1 inch of minced ginger
1 tsp cumin
1 carrot, sliced
5 oz. (150g) rice noodles (omit if you are doing GAPS)
1/2 cup soy (aka tamari) sauce (or coconut aminos if you are off soy)
1/2 tsp chili
1 tbsp coconut oil
