Water is essential to human and organisms to live Drinking water, 2008).
Water covers most of the world and makes up more of the world than land. Water comes from different sources. Water may surround us but there are still shortages. Water allows us to live but it could be harmful to our bodies when polluted. Humans and natural disasters can cause damage to the water supply It is important to conserve water whenever possible (Drinking Water, 2008). Oceans make up two-thirds of the Earth (Drinking Water,2008). It is made up of saltwater. This water is not useable for humans to drink or use for food. Even though it is not a water source for organisms or humans to drink, it has it own importance in the world. It contains organism sources for food, like fish, lobsters, squid, and clams to name a few (Why Oceans, 1998). The ocean helps with the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which helps lower climate change. Climate change is a continuing problem humans are dealing with today. Humans dispose different substances like chemical weapons, and radioactive material into the ocean that is banned on land. River pollutants are washed into the ocean, to help provide cleaner rivers (Why Oceans, 1998). The world is only made up of 3% fresh water (Why Ocean, 1998.) Almost two-third of fresh water is not even liquid format. It is trapped in glaciers and ice caps. Ground and surface water consist of other fresh water. Ground water provides for almost half of the worlds drinking water. It is also important for our agriculture, industrial and environment uses. Surface water consists of rivers, swamps and lakes. It provides for a small factor of drinking water but it is still important (Drinking Water, 1998). Water is recyclable (Drinking Water,1998.) The water that is here today is the same water that was here million of years ago. Water goes through a cycle called hydrological. Water comes from the atmosphere to the Earth and continues to repeat the process. It uses energy from the sun and gravity to make the process happen. The sun creates atmospheric vapor to the atmosphere and returns it to the Earth through snow, ice and rain. Water is in form of atmospheric vapor for about 0.0001%. The Worlds water is in from of vapor at some point. Most of the evaporation happens from the ocean. This creates a cooling effect for the Earths climate. It recycles many times during the year (Drinking Water, 2008). There is no shortage of water on Earth, (Drinking Water,1998). As mention before, only 3% is drinkable which causes water shortages in many countries. Every human body needs around 20 to 50 liters of water each day for drinking, cooking and to bathe. There is over billions and billions of people in the world. The world growing rate is increasing everyday, which means centuries from now there probably be four to five billion more humans that need water. Overgrowth and over population causes a red flag for water shortages. Water resources are scarce and polluted. The more people that exist, the more scarce and polluted water resources become (Drinking Water, 1998). Water shortages usually occur in the developing world (Drinking Water, 1998). There is such a fast rate of growth that sanitation systems are not built in enough time to support the growth. In this case, people began to pollute the water with waste. The industrial and agricultural system is increased with growth adds more pollution and run offs to the water. These issues cause less drinkable water, when drinking water is needed in more quantities to support the growth of people (Drinking Water,1998.) Climate change effects water shortages all over the world (Drinking Water,1998).The world depends on the water cycle to distribute water to different places. With global warming, the weather is changing all over. It could cause places to go through droughts or received too much rain. The melting of glaciers to fast or not at all, causes a major issue for water resources the world depends on (Drinking Water, 1998). Humans can not provide more water than what is already on the planet (Drinking Water, 1998). The only way for humans to increase water supplies is to keep from decreasing them. Managing and distribution of the sources is the only ways to increase water for the world. Managing water sources help control pollution from runoffs, waste and sediments into the water. Humans have come up with buffer zones and reconstructed wet lands to help with contamination of water. Reservoirs have been created for water storage because it helps with seasonal weather and variation in precipitation. There is practice called conjunctive use. This practice manages ground and surface water to interconnected resource that helps for an efficient consumption of water. Conserving water can help increase water supplies, as well (Drinking Water, 1998). Water pollution is harmful things are events that contaminate the sources of water. Human activities and natural disasters pollute water everyday (Water Resources, 2008). As mention before, pollution climate change, urban growth and deforestation affect the water system. Waste, liter, chemicals, sediments and pesticides get into the water and make it dirty. Forest cleaning, mining and road building causes particles to get into the rivers that damages water ecosystems. Pollutants forms organic matter and diseases to organisms in the water. It cause it to be unsafe to drink and if drank can become deadly. Pollution forms acid rain, which is harmful to the environment and humans. Natural disasters like floods, hurricanes and tsunamis pollute the water and spread diseases. Wars and conflicts between countries can pollute water. All these events take long-term effect on water supplies (Drinking Water, 1998). Contaminant water causes bacteria, viruses and parasites (Drinking Water,1998). Water is unsafe and if it enters the human body it could cause diseases or death. These pathogens can cause diarrheas and cancer. Statics show that 5,000 children die each day because of diarrhea. Cancer is a long- term effect and could show up years later from the dirty water. People become dehydrated and die if their water is undrinkable. Contaminated water not only effects humans but affects wildlife and ecosystems. It also effects the living organisms that human depend on the eat (Drinking Water, 1998.) Conserving water is important (Cunningham, &ump; Cunningham). There are little things each person can do to conserve. A person should take showers instead of baths. Flushing takes a lot of water and flushing less or buying a low- flush toilets when is possible will conserve a lot. When there is a water leak, fix it as soon as possible. Wash cars, dishing, and clothes as efficiently as possible. Buy and using conserver appliances like low-volume shower heads and efficient dishwater will help. When watering lawns, think about how necessary this really is. These are just a few tips to help conserve the water (Cunningham, &ump; Cunningham). The BP oil spill happened along the coast of Mexico in 2010 is example of human activity of destroying water resources and ecosystems (Gauging,2010). It was the second largest oil spill in the nation. The cause is still unknown. The NOAA detected huge deepwater plumes of dispersed oil up to 30 miles long, seven miles wide and hundred of feet thick. Gulf of Mexico already has industrial pollutants and agricultural run-off from the Mississippi River. The oil from the spill could cause hypoxic conditions. The oil also affected the wildlife just as much as it did the water. Animals were found dead and covered in oil. There could be long-term effects from the chemicals use to break-up the oil. The oil started to wash up in the wet lands, which already has problems with overdevelopment and pollution. The government plans to re-look at the energy policy. The ecosystem started recovering quicker than expect but still has long-term effects (Gauging, 2010).
http://www.studymode.com/essays/Water-Pollution-1851723.html Importance of water Ever since the United Nations conference held on water in 1977 at Mar del Plata (Argentina), water clock has been ticking alarmingly. Problems of access to quality water in sufficient quantity, there is the risk of water shortages and nastiness of its resources getting trickier. The Mar del Plata seminar pointed the basic facts and made water as the main concern on the international political agenda. Yet the 'water crisis' has continued to deteriorate. One and a half billion people across the world not getting the proper drinking water; two billion lack clean water. In 20 years' time these numbers will be increase. Agricultural and industrial pollution is demeaning the quality of fresh water. The biggest risk is in front of universe is the purification of clean drinking water and the sanitation problem. Privatization of water is being aggressively exported to the developing country under the rubric of poverty reduction, debt relief, free trade and economic development. It is a depressing thought but a fact that Organized Capitalism and Organized Crime are aggressively devastating the process of globalization with predatory instincts. These twin forces are insatiably gulping the basic resources of humanity. The multinational corporations are tightening their monopoly on food, forests, water and other gifts to Man. God-given mountain springs are no longer free. One has to pay levy to use Enron, Monsanto Bechtel and other intercontinental companies for drinking water. The World Bank [WB], identified as the clamorous instrument of Multinationals imposing privatization of water on poor and weak debtor nations. In 2000 it sanctioned loans to 24 countries binding the contracting governments to privatize the water supply. Critics say WB is financing Private Water. Other international organizations such as the World Water Commission, who are expected to function disinterestedly, too, have been favoring privatization of water through their reports. Indian Government also slants toward privatization of water supply. The tenth Five-year Plan draft clearly states that "time has come for take proper steps" to support private investment in water projects as the "Government has no resources for promoting water schemes". According to Indian government getting proper water is the main right but under foreign pressure the Government is withdrawing from its earlier position. That the individual citizen must buy water according to her/his requirements is the government's new plan. Before shifting to the industrial policy the government has not cared to seek public approval. The private water suppliers can now fix their own prices and the government will have no objection even if the rates go beyond the common man's reach. Accordingly, state governments are eagerly to handover water purification and supply operations to private companies in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and other big cities. A French company is vestibule aggressively to take over the Water Supply operations in Delhi. In 2002, Karnataka government just about gave away Bangalore Water Supply System to Vivendi, a French firm for 40 Arab rupees. Consultancy firms who had advised this extravagant design got paid 2.4 Core rupees. The government was forced to postpone its decision in the face of prolonged and bitter agitation by the Public. When forced to defer privatization of water supply in big cities, the government turned to small cities and towns. Ulhasnagar has already opted for privatization of its water; Sangali, Mathwad and Mirajpur are in the process of doing so. The Leftist West Bengal government, too, is considering handing over Haldia Water Supply Project to a multinational corporation. Tirpur municipality in Karnataka has fixed 9 liters' water per day for weaker sections. Others shall buy water at prices fixed by the private supplier on its own terms. The prices of water are bound to rise after its privatization. Water, like air, is a necessity for human life. It is also, according to Fortune magazine, "One of the world's great business opportunities. It promises to be to the 21st century what oil was to the 20th." In the past ten years, three giant global corporations have quietly assumed control over the water supplied to almost 300 million people in every continent of the world.
It is our responsibility to save our environment We live and we continue living through everything that happens around us. Caring for the environment is one of the most important issues that demands attention today. With depleting resources of nature and more and more destruction happening every single day, certain ways to save the environment have to be formulated or else there is very little to hope for the future. So, what our responsibility in caring for the environment is? One of the ways is to save the water. Water is a rare commodity and it won't be long before we will need to fight for clean and fresh water. Keep simple things in mind like turning off the tap when you are brushing, do not load the machine or the dishwasher if there is a less load of clothes or dishes, do not use a hose pipe to wash the drive way, instead use a mop and broom, reduce the amount of baths that you take and switch over to showers instead. These are some ways to save the environment for kids and adults alike. Secondly, save paper is the way to save the environment. Save paper to save trees. Make sure that you use both sides of paper before discarding it, if you can, try not to use paper as much and do not forget to recycle paper. You can only marvel at the huge number of trees you can save in this process and contribute to the conservation of natural resources. Besides that, recycling is the best ways to save the environment. It is one of the most important practices that need to be taken up urgently. This ensures that the environment is not further polluted and cause for dangers. Recycling ensures that the things like paper, plastic, tin and others converted into material that is reusable and also puts less pressure on the environment and its resources. Planting trees also the ways to save the environment. You can choose an open area or ground near your residence or workplace. Planting the tree can replace the lost ones, can ensure less pollution and curb greenhouse effect and global warming. Finally, you can save our environment by switch to biodegradable products. There are so many chemical and synthetic products that we use which find their way into water streams or the air and lead to more pollution. So, that is why making use of biodegradable products for the sake of washing utensils and clothes, fertilizers for gardens and the like is one of the simplest and most effective choices to make. In conclusion, as we follow these simple tricks and tips, we can save the environment. This is the least we can all do to save our environment to begin with because it is our responsible to take care our environment.
Ways to save environment There have to be some simple ways to save the environment, right? Something that we can take up on in our own way and make a difference? Of course there are, and in the following article I intend to take you through these. We live and we continue living through everything that happens around us. Do we really stop to think about what our role towards the environment is? Or what our responsibility in caring for the environment is? Rarely do we do that. Even though that is one of the most important issues that demands attention today. With depleting resources of nature and more and more destruction happening every single day, certain ways to save the environment have to be formulated or else there is very little to hope for the future. Whats more, these measures need to be taken with an unflinching urgency for the positive effects to make way and stay there. In the following article we will give you some of the ways to help the environment, curb the destruction and reduce the negative impacts of civilization and technology. We might think that saving the environment is the duty of the government and the big shots of society, but you couldnt be more misguided and wrong about that. There are countless things that one can do in our own ways which will ensure that the pressure on the environment is lessened. What are some of these ways to save the environment? Lets take a look at a comprehensive list of the same. Saving Water Water is a rare commodity and it wont be long before we will need to fight for clean and fresh water. That is why saving water and preventing water pollution becomes very, very crucial. Do not discard paint and oil into the drains, these will make their way into the nearest water body and pollute it further. These are some ways to save the environment for kids and adults alike. Think back to the ways in which you use water and look for ways in which you can curb or reduce the wastage. Save Paper Save paper to save trees. And their importance I dont have to spell it out for you, do I? Ways to save paper? Make sure that you use both sides of paper before discarding it, if you can, try not to use paper as much and do not forget to recycle paper. Similarly, using cloth in place of paper can do wonders to save a huge bulk of paper. This is one of the best ways of how to save our environment. Recycling Speaking of recycling, it is one of the most important practices that needs to be taken up urgently. This ensures that the environment is not further polluted and cause for dangers like so. Recycling does not simply involve recycling paper, but things like plastic, tin and metal scraps, office supplies like cartridges and more. This ensures that they are converted into material that is reusable and also puts less pressure on the environment and its resources. Saving Electricity Another factor to be looked into urgently? Saving electricity. What are the ways in which this can be done? Switching all the electrical appliances off when youre done with them, using less energy-consuming bulbs, using cold water instead of hot to wash clothes, using the stairs instead of the lift, keeping the thermostat or air conditioner on a moderate setting to consume less energy. Growing Vegetables Growing your own vegetables helps you to nurture high quality organic vegetables with minimum use of chemicals and pesticides. This is not only beneficial for the environment but also for your own health. This being one of the most effective ways of how to save the environment. Switch to Biodegradable Products There are so many chemical and synthetic products that we use which find their way into water streams or the air and lead to more pollution. That is why making use of biodegradable products for the sake of washing utensils and clothes, fertilizers for gardens and the like is one of the simplest and most effective choices to make. Planting Trees There are trees being cut down very single day. Do your bit and plant more plants and trees. You are not only replacing the lost ones but are also ensuring less pollution, and curbing green house effect and global warming. Practicing Ethical Fashion Turning vegetarian is a great way to save animals. Animals are being hunted for their fur and other body parts which leads to their extinction and thereby affects the human race directly. Along with ensuring not killing them for food, one needs to also look into the way in which one makes use of animals in the fashion industry. Practicing ethical fashion is therefore very, very important. Composting Making use of composting bins in the garden is a great way to prevent littering as well as providing you with natural manure and fertilizer, that is not harmful to the environment in any way. Maintaining that Car One other thing that is usually neglected is the maintenance of ones car. There are harmful gases and chemicals that are dispelled into the air if the car has not been serviced well, did you know? Make sure that the car is kept in proper condition and taken for regular maintenance so that it give its optimal performance. Similarly, other appliances need to be maintained as well. These simple ways to save the environment will have given you an idea about what one can do at their level to ensure that the environment is not harmed. These simple tricks and tips will allow for some of the most basic pointers in saving the environment. Lets see you do your bit for the environment now.
