OPERATOR'S MANUAL
1.2.5 Safety measures during machine
operation
Safety measures given in the individual chapters of
engineering documentation supplied with the machine
must be added to the safety precautions in force
within the country in which the machine is operated
as regards work organization, work process and
personnel involved.
1.2.5.1. Commencing compaction work
The construction supplier (machine supervisor)
is obligated to issue instructions to the machine
operator before compaction work or routine
maintenance is started. Such instructions must
include requirements for ensuring work safety
during machine operation.
The supervisor must verify and mark:
- utility lines
- underground areas (direction, depth)
- seepage or escape of hazardous materials
- soil bearing capacity, slope of traveling plane
- other obstructions, including their removal.
The supervisor must make machine operators
performing earth work aware of these conditions.
The supervisor must specify a Code of Practice
(C.O.P.), part of which is a work procedure for a
given work operation. This work procedure will
specify factors such as:
- measures when working under extraordinary
conditions (work within protective zones, on
extreme slopes, etc.)
- precautions for any natural disaster hazards
- requirements on work performance while
observing job safety principles
- technical and organizational measures to
secure the safety of workers, the work site and
the environment.
The supervisor must make the machine operator
demonstrably familiar with the Code of Practice.
1.2.5.2. Work safety ensured by the super-
visor
The supervisor must promptly communicate any
damage to the utility lines to their owner and at
same time take measures to prevent unauthorized
persons from accessing the hazardous area.
The supervisor must ensure that no employee
works alone at a work site. Another worker must
always be within sight and within earshot to
provide or call for help in the event of an accident
unless another effective form of monitoring or
communication exists.

1.4. General maintenance safety
Before you begin machine servicing, attach a DO
NOT OPERATE warning tag to the machine in an
area that will be visible.
Service on the machine must only be performed by
a professionally trained person using appropriate
tools and in compliance with the safety instructions
located in the manuals shipped with the machine.
Do not attempt to clean, lubricate, clear obstruc-
tions or make adjustments to the machine while it
is in motion or while the engine is running.
Keep the area used for servicing the machine
clean and dry. Clean up spilled uids.
Only service the machine on a rm level surface,
secured against accidental movement (wheel
chocks), with the engine OFF, the key removed,
the battery disconnected and the drive controls in
their neutral position.
Improper removal of coolant caps could result in
scalding. The cooling system operates under pres-
sure. Hot coolant can spray out if a cap is removed
while the system is hot. Allow the system to cool
before removing the cap. When removing a cap,
turn it slowly to allow pressure to escape before
completely removing the cap.
Engine, transmission, exhaust components and
hydraulic lines may become hot during operation.
Take care when servicing such components. Allow
surfaces to cool before handling or disconnecting
hot components. Wear personal protective equip-
ment, such as hard hat, safety glasses or goggles,
heavy gloves, hearing protection and protective
clothing.

If the operator stands up from the seat while
driving, the speed will slow down until the
roller is fully stopped and braked. This takes 4
seconds. After another 4 seconds, the engine
shuts down.
To start the engine again, the operator must
sit down again, shift the travel controller to
neutral, turn ON the parking brake, turn the
ignition key to the 0 position and then start
the engine. The operator must brake off be-
fore starting to move.
If operator sits down again before 4 sec. have
elapsed, then the roller will continue driving
at a speed selected.
If operator sits down after 4 sec. have elapsed,
then the engine begins to shut down. The op-
erator can start moving again. To do so, the
operator must shift the controller to neutral
and then back to its original position.
NOTICE
On rollers equipped with ROPS2D, an indica-
tor lamp will come on and an acoustic signal
will sound if the roller is driven on a slope
with an incline greater than 12. Vibration will
cut off if the roller angle increases to 15.

3.11. Machine towing
NOTE: These are general requirements for safe towing of a damaged machine under normal conditions. Consult
with your dealer regarding any and all other situations that may occur while towing the machine.
WARNING
A sunk machine can be towed for a short distance if the engine is running and the travel drive and
steering are operational. The operator on a towed machine must steer the machine in the direction
of towing.
Unless the engine works, there is a fault in the hydraulic system or the travel pump is malfunctioning,
you must realease the parking brake and short circuit the hydraulic circuit.
No person may stay on the machine, while it is being towed!
When the brakes are released and the hydraulic circuit for the travel is short circuited, all of the
brakes are disabled!
Before releasing parking brake, secure the machine with wheel chocks!
Do NOT touch hot parts of the machine. Risk of burning!
To tow, use unbroken tow ropes or tow bar of sufcient loading capacity 1.5 times higher than the
weight of towed machine. Use of chains to tow the machine is prohibited.
The max. permissible deection is 30 away from the forward direction of towing!
The towing machine must have sufcient tractive force (power), weight and brake power!
When towing downhill, use a rope to attach another towing machine to the rear part of the towed
machine to prevent its uncontrolled motion!
Failure to comply could result in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
Do NOT start the engine while the machine is being towed!
Do NOT tow the machine for a distance over 300 m (0.19 mile).
The max. speed limit while towing the machine is 2 km/h (1.2 mph)!

3.12. Machine operation during its
running-in period
When putting a new machine into operation, the ma-
chine should not be run at full power for the rst 50
hours (driving uphill with vibration).
NOTICE
Beware of the possibility of reduced brake ef-
ciency and longer stopping distance during
the running-in period for new machines or af-
ter overhaul!
3-27 SV208 - SV216
OPERATORS MANUAL
3.13. Operating the machine at low
temperatures
Compacting during winter season depends on the
content of ne particles and water in the soil being
compacted. As the temperature drops below the freez-
ing point, the soil becomes more solid and harder to
compact.
At temperatures below 0C (32F), it is possible to
compact only dry soils (and stony, loose materials),
or carry out rapid compaction of non-frozen materials
(before soil gets frozen).
Preparation for work at low temperatures:
Check concentration of the engine coolant.
Replace the engine oil with one recommended for
the given range of low ambient temperatures.
Use hydraulic oil of corresponding cinematic vis-
cosity.
Replace the drum transmission uid with one rec-
ommended for the given operating temperature
range of the transmission.
Use winter fuel.
Check that the batteries are recharged.
NOTE: Warm up the batteries to approx. 20C (68F)
(removing the batteries and storing them in a warm
room) to lower the limit temperature for starting by 4 to
5C (7 to 8.75F).
NOTICE
The minimum engine coolant temperature is
60C (140F). The maximum temperature is
100C (212F).
NOTICE
The machine may only be used at its full ca-
pacity after uid has been heated to its op-
erating temperature (radiator can be partially
covered).
NOTICE
When using HV 100 oil in the hydraulic sys-
tem, NEVER start the machine at ambient
temperatures below +2C (36F).
If the machine will be operated for one month
or more at ambient temperatures below -8C
(18F), replace the oil in the hydraulic system
with oil of viscosity class HV 46.
At temperatures below -13C (9F), use oil of
viscosity class HV 32.
It is impossible to start the machine below
-23C (-9F) without preheating of the lling
uids.
3-28 SV208 - SV216
396112
SECTION 3 - OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
3.14. Operating the machine at
high temperatures and high
humidity levels
The higher the air temperature and humidity, the lower
the engine performance. Both factors reducing perfor-
mance are dependent on each other:
- With every 10C (17.5F) of temperature in-
crease, power drops by up to 4% (at constant
humidity)
- With every 10% of increased relative humidity,
power drops by up to 2% (at constant tempera-
ture).
Machine cooling is improved by moving hot air away
from the engine compartment by removing the fender
shields from the hood.
NOTE: For oil of viscosity class HV 46, the max. per-
missible oil temperature is 80C (144F). For HV 32 oil,
the max permissible oil temperature is 70C (158F).
In an environment where hydraulic oil circulates at a
constant temperature of about 90C (194F), we rec-
ommend having the hydraulic oil replaced with oil that
is denser by one class and with HV 100 kinematic vis-
cosity.
3-29 SV208 - SV216
OPERATORS MANUAL
3.15. Operating the machine at high
altitudes
At higher altitudes, engine power drops due to re-
duced atmospheric pressure and the specic weight
of the intake air.
If the engine has black smoke at high altitudes (over
1500 m/4921 ft), contact the engine manufacturers
service center, which will make adjustments to the fuel
injection pump for these operating conditions.
3.16. Operating the machine in an
extremely dusty environment
3.17. Operating with vibration on
compacted and hard materials
When operating the machine with vibration on hard
materials (e.g. stony loose material), or with high level
of base material compacting, there can be even loss of
contact between the drum and the material compact-
ed (so called vibro-stroke). This state can be detected
through increased vibration transfer to the machine
frame and the operator control stand. Partial elimina-
tion of this is possible by increasing travel speed or
changing machine vibration parameters (with the use
of lower amplitude).
If it is necessary to operate the machine under con-
ditions in which the operator could be exposed to
increased vibrations, then the machine operator is
obligated to adjust work procedures to prevent impair-
ment of operator health.
NOTICE
Engine power is affected by the environment
in which the machine is operated.
The machine may be used up to a maximum
altitude of 3658 m (12,000 ft).
WARNING
Prolonged work in vibro-stroke mode is pro-
hibited! In extreme cases, this could cause
machine damage or negatively impact opera-
tor health!
Failure to comply could result in death or
serious injury.
NOTICE
When working in an extremely dusty environ-
ment, reduce the air lter element cleaning
and replacement intervals, the cab dust lter
replacement intervals and the radiator clean-

SECTION 4 - LUBRICATION/MAINTENANCE
4.1.1. Engine oil
Engine oil has been specied as per its performance
classication and viscosity classication.
Performance classication under
AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE (API)
Viscosity classication
The ambient temperature and type of operations at
the site of machine use are decisive in determining
the SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS (SAE)
viscosity class.
Recommended oils:
Case Akcela No. 1, 15W-40 Engine Oil:
SAE 15W40: All seasons
SAE 10W30: Winter
SAE 5W30: Arctic
API CI-4 oil is recommended
Year-round: SAE 15W-40, refer to the viscosity dia-
gram.
Exceeding the low temperature limit will not cause
engine damage, but may cause some starting dif-
culties.
It is convenient to use universal multi-range oils to
avoid the need to change oil due to ambient tem-
perature.
It is possible to use a synthetic engine oil if the
performance and viscosity classications of the oil
correspond to the recommended mineral oils.
The oil change intervals used must be the same as
those for mineral oils.
To make starting at temperatures below 0C (32F)
easier, the engine manufacturer recommends SAE
10W-30 oil.
Viscosity diagram
4.1. Fluid/lubricant specications
NOTICE
Do not exceed the upper temperature limit for
a prolonged period of time as this will reduce
the capabilities of the oil.
When using oil API CG-4/SH, the oil change in-
terval must be reduced by half, i.e. 125 hours.

OPERATOR'S MANUAL
4.1.2. Fuel
WARNING
Never mix diesel with gasoline or alcohol.
These mixtures may cause an explosion!
Failure to comply could result in death or se-
rious injury.
NOTICE
Check with your fuel supplier for the correct
cold weather fuel.
Use fuel that complies with the ASTM (American Soci-
ety for Testing and Materials) D975 standard:
Grade no. 2 fuel
Fuel viscosity must be over 1.3 cST at 40C (104F)
to ensure proper liquidity characteristics and proper
lubrication of fuel system components.
NOTICE
Biodiesel fuel blends are approved for your
engine only if they comply with EN14214
specication standards or ASTM D6751.
NOTICE
The biodiesel fuel must comply with the fuel
specication indicated above.
General specication - biodiesel fuel
Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) biodiesel, referred to
as biodiesel fuel in the following section, is a family of
fuels derived from vegetable oils treated with methyl
esters.
NOTICE
It is imperative that you check with your CASE
dealer to nd out which blend is approved for
your engine. Be aware that use of biodiesel
fuel that does not comply with the standards
mentioned above could lead to severe dam-
age to the engine and fuel system of your ma-
chine. The use of fuels that are not approved
may void CASE warranty coverage.
Biodiesel fuel usage conditions
NOTICE
DO NOT modify the engine and/or injec-
tion pump settings to recover the reduced
performance.
The reduced power must be accepted if using any bio-
diesel fuel blend.
Some modication may be required to allow your en-
gine to run on biodiesel fuel. Consult your dealer for
complete information on these modications.
Biodiesel fuel has a higher cloud point than diesel fuel.
NOTICE
The use of high biodiesel fuel blends are not
recommended in cold weather conditions.
Biodiesel fuel must be purchased from a trusted sup-
plier that understands the product and maintains good
fuel quality. Biodiesel fuel must be preblended by the
supplier. Mixing biodiesel fuels on-site could result in
an incorrect mixture that could lead to problems with
both the engine and the fuel system.
Engine performance is affected by the use of biodiesel
fuel. There may be up to 12% reduction in power or
torque depending on the blend used.
4-4 SV208 - SV216 4-4 SV208 - SV216
2158
SECTION 4 - LUBRICATION/MAINTENANCE
NOTICE
Machines must not be stored for more than 3
months with biodiesel fuel blends in the fuel
system.
With biodiesel fuels, it may be necessary to change
the engine oil, engine oil lter and fuel lter elements
more frequently than with diesel fuels. Biodiesel fuel
can remove rust and particles from the inside of on-
site fuel storage tanks that would normally adhere
to the sides of the tank. Like particle deposits that
commonly occur with diesel fuel, these particles can
become trapped by the machine fuel lters, causing
blockage and shortening lter life. This is more likely
to happen in cold weather. Consult your CASE dealer
for information on cold weather operation and proper
maintenance intervals when using any biodiesel fuel
blend.
When handling biodiesel fuel, be careful not to intro-
duce water into the fuel supply. Biodiesel fuel attracts
moisture from the atmosphere.
Keep fuel tanks as full as possible to limit the amount
of air and water vapor. It may be necessary to drain
the fuel lter water trap more frequently.
Potential oxidation and stability could be a problem
with the fuel stored in the machine.
If longer storage periods are necessary, the engine
must run on pure diesel fuel for a minimum of 20 hours
to ush the biodiesel fuel out of the fuel system prior
to storage.
NOTICE
Biodiesel fuel must not be stored in on-site
storage tanks for more than three months.
4.1.4. Hydraulic oil
Use only the following quality hydraulic oil of the cor-
rect performance class for the machines hydraulic
system:
Case Akcela Hy-Tran Ultra
Synthetic hydraulic oil
It is possible to ll the hydraulic system with synthetic
oil for which any leakage will be completely biode-
graded via microorganisms found in water and soil
NOTICE
Always consult with the oil manufacturer or
dealer before switching from mineral oil to
synthetic oil or mixing oils of different brands!
2152
4.1.3. Coolant
NOTICE
Do NOT use coolant with an antifreeze con-
centration greater than 50% (point of conge-
lation is -36C [-34F], boiling point is 110C
[228F]) unless absolutely required.
NEVER use an antifreeze concentration over
68%!
We do NOT recommend the blending of an-
tifreeze agents. Blending various types of
coolant may cause loss of anticorrosion
properties.
Always check the antifreeze concentration of
the coolant with a refractometer before the
winter season starts.
WARNING
Hazardous nitroamines will form when a ni-
tride-based antifreeze is mixed with an amine-
based agent. Failure to comply could result in
death or serious injury.
Use antifreeze in all seasons to protect the cooling
system from corrosion and all risk of freezing.
For areas where ambient temperature is over -36C
(-32.8F), use a blend of 50% ethylene-glycol based
antifreeze.
For areas where the temperature is below -36C
(-32.8F), it is advisable to use a blend of 40% water
and 60% antifreeze.
Any spillage of biodiesel fuel must be cleaned up im-
mediately before it can cause damage to the environ-
ment and the paint nish of the machine.
Before using biodiesel fuel blends, consult your dealer
to receive full information about the blend approved
for your machine and any detailed conditions of its us-
age.
NOTICE
Be aware that not fullling the requirements
and conditions of biodiesel fuel usage will
void your machines CASE warranty coverage.

supply must have a starting voltage of 24 V.
Starting via jumper cables from a different machine
1. Connect one end of the (+) cable pole to the (+)
pole of the discharged battery.
2. Connect the other end of the (+) cable pole to
the (+) pole of the machine battery providing
starting voltage.
3. Connect one end of the (-) pole to the (-) pole of
vehicle battery providing starting voltage.
4. Connect the other end of the (-) cable pole to
part of the machine being started that is wired
in the engine (or in the engine block itself).
NOTICE
The specied sequence of operations must
be followed precisely!
Once started, disconnect the battery jumper
cables in reverse order.
If a starting unit with no batteries connected
has been used, do not disconnect this unit
before machines battery is connected.
WARNING
Strong sparking followed by explosion of gas
generated by the battery may occur when
starting.
Non-insulated parts of starting cable collets
must not touch each other!
The jumper cable connected to the battery (+)
pole may not come into contact with electri-
cally conductive parts of the machine - short-
circuiting possible.
Do NOT bend over the battery - risk of acid
burn!
Eliminate the presence of ignition sources
(open re, burning cigarettes, etc.).
Do NOT check for the presence of voltage in
wires by sparking against the machine frame!

machines
Check the machine against delivery documenta-
tion.
Check whether any parts are missing or were dam-
aged during transport. Inform the shipper of any
discrepancies.
NOTICE
NEVER start the engine during the course of
storage!
Prior to restoration of machine operation,
wash the preservation agents away with
a high-pressure jet of hot water combined
with normal degreasers while observing the
Instructions for Use along with ecological
guidelines.
Carry out the de-waxing (deconservation) and
washing of the machine at places equipped
with intercepting sumps to trap the rinsing
water as well as de-waxing agents.
Prior to restoration of machine operation, the
wash machine with high-pressure hot water
using ordinary degreasers added as directed
by the chemical manufacturer, while observ-
ing ecological guidelines.
Wash the machine in places with catch basins
available to collect rinse water and chemicals.
Wash and clean the entire machine carefully. Be-
fore parking the machine for its preservation and
storage, warm up the engine to its operating tem-
perature while running. Park the machine on a
solid, at surface at a safe place with no risk of
natural disaster (oods, landslides, re, etc.) to the
machine.
In addition:
Repair spots of damaged paint.
Lubricate all lubrication points, control cables,
joints of the controls, etc.
Conrm water llings are drained.
Check that the coolant has the required antifreeze
properties.
Check the state of accumulator charges; recharge
if necessary.
Apply preservative grease over the chromed sur-
faces of piston rods.
We recommend protection of the machine against
corrosion through spraying the preservation agent
(applied spraying), particularly in places with po-
tential for corrosion origin.
The machine treated like that will need no special
preparation prior to its subsequent recommissioning.
6.2. Machine preservation and
storage for longer than 2
months
When parking the machine, the same principles apply
as for short-term preservation.
In addition, the following are recommended:
Dismantle the accumulators, check their condition
and store in a cool, dry room (recharge the accu-
mulators regularly).
Support the runner frame so the damping system
shows minimal sag.
Protect rubber elements by applying special pres-
ervation agent.
Inate the tires to the required pressure and pro-
tect them from direct sunlight. Apply preservation
grease to the chromed surfaces of the piston rods.
Preserve the machine via spraying with special
agent, particularly at places of possible corrosion
origin.
Cover the engine suction and discharge ports with
double polyethylene foil and secure this foil thor-
oughly with adhesive tape.
Protect the headlights, external rearview mirrors
and other elements with external wiring by spray-
ing a special agent and wrapping in polyethylene
foil.
Preserve the engine as described in the manufac-
turers instruction manual visibly mark that the
engine has been preserved.
