Lead-in

Write on the board rent an apartment. Underneath, write

name, occupation, bank information. Give or elicit a list of
other situations where people need to give such personal
information (e.g., getting a drivers license, a passport, a
library card). Explain that the students are going to practice
giving personal information in spokenform.
A
Write these answers on the board. Then elicit the
questions:
Im 21 years old. (How old are you?)
Im a chemistry student. (Whats your occupation?)
My mothers name is Maria. (Whats your mothers name?)
If necessary, explain that an occupation is the main
thing you do, usually a job or studies.
Divide the class into pairs. Give each student the
first part of the worksheet. Ask the students to work
individually to unscramble the sentences.
B
When they finish, ask the students to check their
answers in pairs. Then check the answers with the
class. You may need to explain password.
C
Divide each pair into Student A and Student B. Give
each student the second part of the worksheet. Direct
them to the new account information form and Ex. C.
Explain that Student A works in a bank and Student
B wants to open a new account.
Ask the students to sit back to back. Student B calls
the bank. Student A answers the phone, saying Hello?
Student B says I want to open an account, please.
Student A asks Student B the questions from Ex. A
in the correct order. Student A writes the answers in
the form. Point out the useful questions in the speech
bubbles.
D
When they have finished, Student B checks the
answers. If any are incorrect, Student B tells Student
A to ask the questions again. This is repeated until all
of the answers are correct.
E
Have the students swap roles and repeat the process.
Follow-up
Put the students into small groups. With the
worksheet put away, ask them to try to remember the
ten questions in the correct order (as they appeared
on the bank form). Ask what the first question was.
Have them write them down and number them 110.
Set a time limit, e.g., two minutes.
Choose individual students to come up to the board
and write each of the questions. Do the odd numbers
first, leaving a space for the even numbers. Be sure
to use the ordinal form (the third question rather than
question 3).
Have the students take out their worksheets and
check. Elicit any necessary corrections.
