Point Scoring System
In individual events there must be 2 competitors from each team. The finishing
places of the top 2 finishers per team will be counted cross country style. The
team places will be combined and the lowest resulting total will receive first place.
The total scores will then be ranked from first through last, and points will be
assigned from the scoring charts on page 2.
Example:
Team A finished 1

Race Description Rules & Regulations

Rescue Race
Two competitors (1 team) from each team will compete in this event. At the
command of the starter the victim will race to the flag line. Rescue cans must be
kept in the sand prior to the victim reaching the flag line. The rescuer will grab the
buoy and swim out to pick up the victim. The victim will grab the buoy and will
only be allowed to kick. Any stroking of the hands by the victim will cause that
team to DQ! The rescuer, the victim and the buoy must break the plane of the
finish line. Swimming or bodysurfing fins will be permitted. NO H2O Velocity
or other large racing fins allowed. If you do not have a hard plastic rescue can,
we will provide you with one.
o Course is approximately 150 yards
o Team cannot dive across the finish line
o Must be in contact and control of the victim at all times
o Victim must be in contact with the rescue can
o The swimmer must carry the victim
o Victim can only take one or two steps to mount the swimmer

2 Man Line Pull
This event consists of 4 people: a buoy/ line swimmer (attached), victim and 2
pullers. Each team will be assigned to a land and corresponding flag buoy by
random draw immediately before the heat.
o If buoy swimmer reaches the victim first, he may start to swim with
the victim on the buoy towards the line swimmer
o Victims and swimmers may hook up at their discretion
o Victim must be in contact with the buoy at all times including the exit
out of the water
o At least one swimmer must be in contact with the victim upon exiting
the water and crossing the line
o No pre-made loops are permitted
o The rescuers must carry the victim across the finish line
o Team are not permitted to dive across the finish line
o Victim can only take one or two steps to mount the carrier
o Swimming or bodysurfing fins will be permited. NO H2O Velocity
or other large racing fins allowed.
o Only state issued rescue line and buoys can be used

Run, Swim, Run (100/300/100)
From the start line, competitors run parallel to the shore to pass around the turning
flag and back towards the start line around a second turning flag and enter the
water to swim out to and around the swim flag line buoys. Competitors swim back
to the beach to again run and the turning flags before running into the funnel finish
line.

Beach Flags
From a prone starting position on the beach, competitors rise, turn and race to
obtain a baton (beach flag) buried upright in the sand approximately 20 m away.
Since there are always fewer batons than competitors, those who fail to obtain a
baton are eliminated.

! Competitors take their allotted positions, a minimum of 1.5 m apart at
the start line.
! Competitors lie face down with their toes on the start line with heels
together, hands on top of each other with fingertips to wrist and with
the head up. Elbows must be extended forward so that the chest lies
flat on the sand. The bodys mid- line should be 90 degrees to the start
line. No scooping of the sand or digging, or digging in of the feet is
permitted.
! The starter shall be positioned out of view of the competitors.
! On the starters Competitors Ready command, competitors shall
assume the proper starting position.
! On the starters Heads Down command, competitors at once and
without delay shall place their chins on their hands.
! After a deliberate pause and when all competitors are stationary, the
starter shall signal the start with a whistle blast.
! At the start signal, competitors shall rise to their feet and race to
obtain a baton.
! No deliberate impedance -Incidental contact only
! Any competitor(s) not in possession of a flag shall be eliminated.
! If possession is not clearly determined a runoff will ensue
! In the case of any conflict, we will refer to the official USLA Rules
and Regulations for Beach Flags.
2 Mile Beach Run
Competitors race 2 miles on the beach 1 mile out and 1 mile back.
! Maximum of 2 competitors from each team
Swim/Paddle/Run Relay
This 3 person events consists of an approx.. 400 swim, 800 yard paddle, & 1000
yard run. All 3 competitors must make exchanges behind the line. All competitors
will be provided with & must use BZ boards.
o Consist of a swimmer, paddler and runner.

o Max 2 lifeguards per team may enter

Distance Paddle
(No competition boards permitted) BZ Paddle boards will be provided for every
team. Please bring your own wax.

4x 100 yd. Soft Sand Relay
This is a 4 guard event. Each of the 4 runners runs their leg of the race.
o Each runner will pass off a beach flag to the next runner
o The exchange must be done behind the line
o After each runner completes his portion of the race, he must sit down
on the sand to verify completion of his/her run
o No duplicate runners are allowed!
o Teams with duplicate runners can run for fun, but will not be scored!
