RRC Connection
20 Nokia Siemens Networks
I-HSPA Trial Porta, April 2010
Objective.-
The objective of this is to verify the signaling/procedure established under I-HSPA coverage.
Theory.-
In I-HSPA the Radio Resource Control (RRC)
Connection procedures are fully standard on
Uu and Iu as you can see in the pictures
(the Iub interface is internal in I-BTS).

The signaling flow bellow show the performance of the RRC connection setup done in Machachi
Node B.

RRC Connected Mode
Objective.-
The objective of this part is to verify the RRC transition between the different states
(CELL_DCH, CELL_FACH, CELL_PCH and URA_PCH).
Theory.-
In I-HSPA There are three scenarios for WCDMA packet access:
Infrequent transmission of small packets (common channels).
Frequent transmission of small packets (common channels).
Transmission of large packets
When the packet data is transferred on common channels, the UE is in CELL_FACH state.
When large user data are transmitted using dedicated channels, the UE is in CELL_DCH state.
Since the MS performs continuous reception of FACH in CELL_FACH state, it should be moved to
the CELL_PCH state if the data service has not been active for a while.

State Transition to Cell DCH from Idle Mode - I
Objectives
Verify the capability to establish a RAB with a HSDPA RB in downlink.

Objective
To demonstrate state transition from Cell_DCH with allocated HSDPA to Cell-FACH and from
Cell_FACH to Cell-DCH (HSDPA) and to obtain the measurements for average transition times.
Signalling
The signalling follow the standard as showed in the picture bellow

During the test we observed to many Cellupdate message (UL Tx) that are causing to
many transitions between Cell FACH to Cell DCH that is not normal.

We disabled all the software application that could be required this UL Tx in the Drive Test
Machine.

After that the cellupdate message still appearing and are causing a lot of Cell FACH to Cell
PCH transition.

At that time we performed a UE trace to check what could be the reason for this constant
request.
