Description: Create three original logos for a company.
Date: 07/07/2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 4;Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Objectives: Learn to use the basic tools of illustrator to create three
logos for a company.
Description: Three different logos for the same company.
Process: This was really fun to create a logo in Illustrator. Well I started
by using pictures of glasses that I found on the internet. I used the pen
tool to match the shape of the glasses. I then used the shape tool and made
circles for his eyes. I used a picture of an owl to get the right size of the
beak. I used alignment to make the design uniform.
In the second design I wanted to use typography to make the owls eyes,
and it worked out nicely. I used the pen tool to create a body and ears and
feet. I wanted to keep the design simple by using a simple color.
In the last design I used the shape builder/remover tool to make the owls
ears. I also copied glasses from a design and incorporated that same
design both into the O and also the second part of my design. The letters
all line up together to create gestalt.

Description: A webpage I created to show off my personally created logos
Date: 07/27/2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 4;Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools:
Text Wrangler
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn how to manipulate HTML and CSS to design a webpage to match my logo
Write a description of creating my logo and how it matched my message.
Identify hex colors for web design
Compress files in a zipped folder to attach as one file
Understand how to use Text wrangler
Process: I created this website using the program Text Wrangler on a Mac computer.
This was my first time writing HTML/CSS and manipulating the formula. Also in class
we used thehttp://www.W3.org HTML validator to make sure our code worked.
I did not create this website from scratch, as I used a pre-made CSS document,
however I was able to change the colors, padding, and fonts.
The colors I found using the eye dropper tool and choosing either darker or lighter
shades to add repetition but also add a little but of contrast.
My biggest thing I focused on was making sure that my text and logo were not too
close to each other. I used padding to add space.
I also looked online for a way I could do a two-colored background, and found a free
code that I could copy and paste into my CSS code and then I changed the background
to green.

Description: A black & white flier that promotes a graduate leadership conference.
Date: 05/09/2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 4;Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesign
Objectives: Create a flier promoting a graduate leadership conference, by applying
appropriate design principles and typography.
Keep image, text, and logo orgazed by creating a project folder
Process: I started by sketching layouts for my project. I found a layout that was
cohesive for the project I was creating and used Adobe InDesign to create this flier
digitally. I used deep contrasts of white and black to emphasize the title. I used
sharp edges to carry the viewers eyes through the design. I kept body copy small to
keep the focus on the title and picture. I was given the image, logo, and content for
this flier.

Description: A two-sided folding brochure for an apartment complex
Date: 07/12/2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 4;Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Align a two-sided, folded document
Use paragraph styles in InDesign
Learn how to text wrap
Process: I set up a brochure that would have two different folds in the design. I split my
layout into three different parts.
I wanted the outside of the house to be the cover, so it represented you walking into the
apartment complex when you opened up the design.
Snowview apartments are blue, so I went with a blue color scheme for repetition throughout the
design. I used different shades of blue in the brochure and also in the design of the logo.
In creating the logo I referenced an actual snowflake and used the rotate tool in order to create
the shape of a snowflake. I used the shape builder tool to blend all the shapes together. I also
used the triangle tool to create the edges of the snowflake.
I took the pictures of Snowview apartments off of their website.
For both pictures of the girls, I used Adobe Photoshop and used the quick selection tool to cut
out the other girls. I then used the text wrap tool on both of the pictures so that the text would
flow against the pictures.

Description: Design a poster or flyer by taking quality pictures and learning to edit
them in Photoshop. Also creating a cohesive color scheme based off your photo.

Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 4; Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools:
Canon Camera
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills
Size and crop image
Learn to adjust brightness, hue, saturation, and contrast
Process: I formulated my plan by taking some pictures outside early in the morning. I
took one of a No Trespassing Sign and loved the contrast of the brick color of the sign
against the blue sky and green field. It was a perfect split complementary match. I used
my simple Panasonic DMC-FH25K camera and shot some great photos. Because it was
near sunrise, the colors really were bright.
I then imported my photo into Photoshop and using the layers feature I brightened up
the photo. I also increased the vibrance, saturation, and increased the sharpness on
the path and sign. After I finished editing my photo, I worked on my design. I wanted
to really bring out the brick color in the sign and so started with coloring the entire
background one color, but after critiques and some thinking, I changed it to incorporate
all colors of my design in the background.

Description: A full-bleed color flyer to promote a fundraising even using only
Microsoft Word and a scanner.
Date: 05/17/2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 4; Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools:
Epson Scanner
Microsoft Word
PFD2JPG.net (PDF converter)
Objectives:
Scan and import a quality image
Create a full-bleed design
Learn how to use the gradient tool
Edit images in Word
Process: I started by scanning the ropes picture, which I scanned from a book. The
picture was 88 in size so I needed to add extra length, so I used the gradient feature
on Microsoft Word to add extra length both vertically and horizontally to the sky. I then
needed to cover up some words in the top left corner, so I added a shape and softened
the edges to make it appear like leather. I then used the same colors in the corner for
repetition and diagonal balance. I left a lot of white space so that the design has great
flow to it.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
InDesign
Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company
Incorporate logo into a business card and a letterhead
Process: I created a logo in Adobe Illustrator. I used simple shapes such as a triangle,
and many ellipses to create a fairy. To create her wand I used the rotation tool to
make a flower that can also double as a magic wand. I downloaded a new font from the
internet that looked more magical to make the F.
In creating, stationery I copied and pasted my logo into Adobe InDesign. I placed the
fairy with her wand in the top left corner and then I copied the wand into the corner
to make a watermark (keeping the opacity very low) that also helps fulfill the purpose
of repetition. I kept my body copy pink and small so that while readable, it is not
distracting. I used a dotted line at the top just using the line tool to unify the parts.

Description: A montage created using skills of masks, typography, and blending.
Date: 05/31/2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 4
Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn the basics of Photoshop layers
Learn to blend images smoothly by using masks
Use filters
Process: I started by making the background 8.511. I then imported the pictures of
the leopard and the man. Using the paint brush I masked the hard edges of both photos
so that they would blend in the background, using opacity of many levels, just to get
the right blend. I then took a copy of the leopard and masked that on the face of the
man, turning the opacity very low, just so that it was obvious that he had leopard print
on him. The leopards face did not fill up his face, so I made copies of pieces of the
leopards skin and blended those together too. I then applied the jungle background
and had to crop out a big butterfly using the patch tool.
