Introduction

Our team would like to study about the Diversity workforce in an

organization We have discussed and finally decided to choose Apple Inc
for our group project, because Apple well managed the diverse workforce.
The worlds increasing globalization requires more interaction among
people from diverse cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds than ever before.
People no longer live and work in an insular marketplace; they are now part of
a worldwide economy with competition coming from nearly every continent.
For this reason, profit and non-profit organizations need diversity to become
more creative and open to change. Maximizing and capitalizing on workplace
diversity has become an important issue for management today. Supervisors
and managers are the targeted audience because they need to recognize the
ways in which the workplace is changing, evolving, and diversifying. Since
managing diversity remains a significant organizational challenge, managers
must learn the managerial skills needed in a multicultural work environment.
Supervisors and managers must be prepared to teach themselves and others
within their organizations to value multicultural differences in both associates
and customers so that everyone is treated with dignity. This paper is designed
for managers to effectively manage diverse workforce populations. It provides
a general definition for diversity, discusses the benefits of diversity in the
workplace, the challenges of managing a diverse workplace, and presents
effective strategies for managing diverse workforces.

Objectives

To study and understand Apple Founder and CEO Steve Jobs vision
and management style of diverse workforce in his organisation and creating
the Apple brand successful world wide.

To analyze his strategy, how he structure the diverse work force positively
and making them as a dynamic, innovative workforce.

Diversity

Diversity is generally defined as acknowledging, understanding, accepting,
valuing, and celebrating differences among people with respect to age, class,
ethnicity, gender, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, spiritual
practice, and public assistance status

Diversity issues are now considered important and are projected to
become even more important in the future due to increasing differences in the
U.S. population. Companies need to focus on diversity and look for ways to
become totally inclusive organizations because diversity has the potential of
yielding greater productivity and competitive advantages

The many separate societies that emerged around the globe differed
markedly from each other, and many of these differences persist to this day. As
well as the more obvious cultural differences that exist between people, such as
language, dress and traditions, there are also significant variations in the way
societies organize themselves, in their shared conception of morality, and in the
ways they interact with their environment.

There different types of diversity, few of them are,

Diversity(Political) describes differences in racial or ethnic
classifications, age, gender, religion, philosophy, physical abilities,
socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, intelligence,
mental health, physical health, genetic attributes, behavior, attractiveness, or
other identifying features.
In measuring human diversity, a diversity index measures the probability
that any two residents, chosen at random, would be of different ethnicities. If all
residents are of the same ethnic group i diversity index is zero. The diversity
index does not take into account the willingness of individuals to cooperate with
those of other ethnicities. If half are from one group and half from another group
then the diversity index is 50

Cultural diversity is the quality of diverse or different cultures, as
opposed to monoculture, as in the global monoculture, or a homogenization of
cultures, akin to cultural decay. The phrase cultural diversity can also refer to
having different cultures respect each other's differences. The phrase "cultural
diversity" is also sometimes used to mean the variety of human societies or
cultures in a specific region, or in the world as a whole. The culturally destructive
action of globalization is often said to have a negative effect on the world's
cultural diversity.

Functional diversity is a politically and socially correct term for special
needs, disability, impairment and handicap

Conclusion

A diverse workforce is a reflection of a changing world and marketplace.
Because of the globalization diverse workforce is very important to the
organization. Like Apple Inc had head quarters in US, But they sell their product
in many countries, So they need diverse people to promote their products in
local languages, and marketing in different locations, and need to do production
in different countries to save the production cost. So it is very important to
manage diverse work force.
Diverse work teams can bring high value to the organizations. Respecting
individual differences will benefit the workplace by creating a competitive edge
and increasing work productivity. So that the Diversity management is very
important for the organization growth. It benefits associates by creating a fair
and safe environment where everyone has access to opportunities and
challenges. Management tools in a diverse workforce should be used to educate
everyone about diversity and its issues, including laws and regulations. Most
workplaces are made up of diverse cultures, so organizations need to learn how
to adapt to be successful.
