Check that the winch has its identfcaton plate displaying the WLL. 2. Ensure the shear pins are intact and located correctly in the lower secton of the operatng levers. Spare shear pins are provided with new units at the tme of purchase. 3. Check operaton of the forward and reverse operatng levers. They should operate smoothly and without stcking. 4. Generally check the winch for any signs of wear, damage, abuse, corrosion, cracking or distorton. Check also that all nuts and bolts are secure. 5. Check the handle for signs of distorton and that it is the correct size and type for the model winch. 6. Check the anchor point for wear, distorton, cracks and corrosion. General Creeper winches are designed for pulling, lifing or lowering loads. They use a wire rope that is levered through the machine. Creeper winches are versatle machines and can be utlised in many applicatons. Principle of Operaton Most creeper winches work by the same general principle, regardless of size or capacity. They utlise two sets of jaws that open and close in turn enabling the rope to be pulled through by one set of jaws while the other set of jaws hold the wire rope in positon and stop it slipping backwards under load. The creeper winch principle is similar to a person pulling on a rope. One hand holds the rope while to the other hand pulls in turn. WARNING If the winch is to be used for a lifing applicaton an approved lifing hook must be fted to the wire rope. The hook must be fted with a bearing that is capable of swivelling with the rated lifing capacity of the winch applied. Nobles creeper winches come standard with alloy eye hooks that are rated for and suitable in pulling or winching applicatons only. Please refer to Nobles if the winch is to be used in a lifing applicaton. Have Questons? Need Assistance? Wire Rope 1. Check the tapered end of the wire rope. 2. Check the wire rope for any signs of excessive wear, corrosion and kinking. 3. Check the ferrule for any signs of cracking, distorton or other damage. 4. Check the hook to ensure the safety catch is intact and that there is no deformaton, excessive wear or corrosion. Page 3 Care and Use Guide Rig Mate Creeper Winch 11. The winch and the rope should be stored in a clean, dry and airy environment where it will be free from contaminaton. 12. Use only the hand lever provided with the winch and do not use extension or cheeter bars to gain more leverage. If the winch cannot be operated with the correct handle then it is being overloaded. 13. Ensure there is no defecton in the rope when under load. If the rope needs to be defected or the capacity doubled to two falls then only an approved sheave or snatch block should be used. The snatch block should be of adequate WLL and the sheave should be of suitable diameter and grooving. 14. The creeper winch wire rope should not be allowed to rotate under load. This could result in the wire rope unlaying. WARNING Creeper winches should always be used in line with good lifing and rigging practce and as per the manufacturers recommendatons. Incorrect Creeper winch use could result in a dangerous situaton that could cause property damage, serious injury or death. Rig-Mate Creeper winches should only be operated with the manufacturers recommended rope or an approved equivalent. The ropes are specifcally designed to suit the jaws in the creeper winch and are non-standard diameters. Rig-Mate creeper winches will not operate safely or efciently if the manufacturers rope is not used. Care In Use 1. Always read and ensure you understand the owners manual and safety instructons before operatng the winch. 2. Never lif or pull a load in excess of the winch capacity. 3. Conduct minor operatonal test before use if possible. 4. Only shear pins supplied by the manufacturer should be used. Never mix and match shear pins from other brands of creeper winches or replace pins with any other material. Shear pins are designed to fail to prevent the operatng lever from being subjected to excessive overloading. 5. Always use the genuine wire rope as recommended by the manufacturer or an approved equivalent. Do not mix and match wire ropes from other brands of creeper winches. Wipe the wire rope clean before using in the winch. 6. Ensure that the winch is well lubricated. For lubricaton instructons refer to the manufacturers operatng manual. 7. Do not use kinked rope, as this will cause the winch to malfuncton. If the rope is kinked it should be replaced before the winch is used. 8. Ensure all slings and accessories used to lif or pull the load and anchor the winch are of sufcient strength and are suitable for the purpose. All slings and accessories used with creeper winches should be rated and comply to Australian Standards. 9. The wire rope should be handled with care and should be reeled and unreeled in a straight line to prevent loops or kinks occurring. The wire rope should always be reeled up afer use. 10. The wire rope should be lubricated from tme to tme with an approved wire rope lubricant. Page 4 Care and Use Guide Rig Mate Creeper Winch Operatng Instructons 1. While holding the back lever in the neutral positon, push the relax handle forward as far as it will go. 2. Then push the back lever towards the relax handle. This will open the internal jaws. 3. It is also helpful to hold the relax handle and back lever together in one hand while pushing the front lever forward with the other. This will help raise the top secton of the jaws to their highest point possible. This will assist during wire rope reeving or removal. 4. When the relax handle and back lever are together at their highest point, push the wire rope through the unit to the desired length. 5. Push the front lever forward while pulling the relax handle forward, the relax handle will drop and lock into place at the back of the relax handle slot. The jaws have now gripped the wire rope and the winch is ready for use. 6. Push and pull the front lever to and fro to adjust the winch towards the desired positon. Atach the handle to the front lever and the winch is ready to lif or pull a load towards you. 7. Atach the handle to the back lever and the winch is ready to lower a load away from you.
