Impact of the latest NHTSA Regulation on Driver Distraction
It is only the beginning!

Some items are vague, others are unrealistic. It will not solve the
problem, only create additional hurdles.

The latest NHTSA regulation is the reverse-camera mandate. No
effects on distraction. Others like "texting while driving bans" may
prevent some - but not all - distraction issues.

Same effects as the alcohol prohibition of 1920s - It will make
people use smart devices even more while driving

The guideline is counter-productive - it will hopefully never impact
any real development!

It could change the design of many existing systems, but it is
unclear how many OEMs will strictly adhere to the guidelines.

Forces awareness and action.

The latest guidelines show a more mature project where the
user distraction due to the display should be controlled but
remain useful for the driver.

These are essential guidelines and they address a very important
issue. It's a step in the right direction, but the regulations will need
to be further refined.
