son, thanks
in part to a
series of excit-
ing events that
helped boost
team morale.

ample of building
a community and

Tech with eight
home runs, three
of them grand
slams, while also
stepping up as
a pitcher. Other

MSA/Joslin girls
team nished 0-5
but had several
notable perfor-
mances. Junior
Gloria Scott hit
two home runs
in the nal game,

pitching staf
averaged seven
strikeouts a game.

in the discus at the
De La Salle Class
2A sectional meet.
Sophomore Alaysia
Hardy made it by
nishing second in
the shot put.

ished sixth among
the 15 teams in the
sectional meet.

Hardy was among

Hardys top male
contributors. Coach
Hardy, by the way,
is Alaysias and
Brayces father.
We hope to build
on this years ac-

junior sprinter
Rokyah Robinson.
Robinson won the
200-meter dash at
the Lyons Town-
ship girls Class 3A
sectional meet to
qualify for state.

Jones-Rogers.
We had a very
strong 6th-grade
team, so I believe
they can step up
as 7th-graders and
keep the improve-
ment going, Roche
said.

former baseball
and football
superstar a lot
in common with
Perspectives
Charter Schools,
and its why
he received the
A Disciplined
Life Award at
Perspectives A
Disciplined Life
Benet May 1 at
the Four Seasons
Hotel in Chicago.
Jackson has
dedicated his
post-playing days
to bettering the
lives of minority
youth through his
Give Me a Chance
Foundation.
He also has es-
tablished Bo Jack-
sons Elite Sports,
which includes
a huge air-sup-
ported structure
known as the Bo
Dome and which
is regarded as
one of the lead-
ing indoor sports
training centers
in the country.
Perspectives
Board Chairman
Tony Anderson
connected Per-
spectives with
Jackson.
As part of this
budding relation-
ship, four Per-
spectives teams
have been able to
train for a day at
the dome, which
is in Lockport.

dome April 16
and worked with
former White Sox
player John Can-
gelosi and other
instructors.
Te Perspec-
tives football team
worked out at the
facility June 14.
It is a top-notch
facility with state
of the art equip-
ment and coach-
ing, Perspectives
Athletic Director
Vinay Mullick
said.
It was just a
real good experi-
ence for our kids
and coaches to be
exposed to that,
and hopefully we
can continue to
use the facility for
years to come.

Mr. Temkin retired in 2008 from the
Chicago Tribune and volunteers in the
Perspectives Charter Schools athletic
department. He spent his last 20 years
at the Tribune writing a high school
sports column that covered hundreds
of schools, including Perspectives.

and cheered each

Michelle Ander-

worked together
in order to show
each other how to
improve. I never
had to tell anyone
to be positive or
supportive; they
did it on their
own.

this years team
(15-9 overall),

pe, JuJuan Patrick,

Deaireon Davis,
Izea Hatcher and
Orlando Cook.
Tat has him
aiming for con-
ference and
regional titles in
2015.

encouraging
growth among
his younger
players, includ-

Anthony Davis
Jr. and Treyvon
Freeman.
