Staying Safe With Mail - Information, Tips, Tricks and More

Know more about the mail than you probably ever wanted to.
Note: This document is also available for viewing/download at Scribd.
Greetings!
I did a quick search here on grasscity and didn't fnd a post specifcally geared towards tips for
sending/receiving packages that contain cannabis materials so I fgured I'd make one. ! lot of this
information comes from documents "#$%s& that the 'S#S has made publicly available "and believe
me there's nothing more e(citing than perusing a )* page #$% about fucking mail& and various
other sources online including a former 'S#S employee. I'll cover domestic "'S& mail as well as
+anada #ost and mail from ,urope. Some sections will be applicable regardless of the origin of a
package. I will mention that there is an emphasis on the 'nited States in this document. I live
here and relevant information is the easiest to fnd. It's readily readily available. I tried to cover
other locations thoroughly but probably not as thoroughly as the good ol' 'S!.
-y goal here isn't to noid anybody out or anything and I'll say it right up front when it comes to
anything cannabis and the mail I am super cautious. .ne more note before I begin none of this
information is anything that if on the o/ chance The 0oys were to come across this thread would
make them say 1Shit. Those wily potheads have it fgured out. 2e need to switch up our game.3
This is all freely available information.
.ne thing I will not be covering here in stealth/concealment methods. That is not information that
needs to or will be shared publicly. !t least not by me.
United States Postal Service USPS!
Some of this stu/ is also applicable to mail/packages sent to/from other countries but I'm sure you
don't feel like reading the same stu/ twice with 1+anada3 replacing 1The 'nited States3 and I
don't feel like typing it. So we all win.
Postage The best way to send a package is via regular old %irst +lass stamped mail. 0e sure
you are using the correct amount of postage in relation to the package's weight. ,(cessive
postage can raise suspicions about your package. %irst +lass is good for a couple of reasons. .ne
it protected from unlawful search and sei4ure "without a warrant&. Two most stamped mail is
transported by truck whereas ,(press and #riority -ail is usually transported by airplane and
guess who's around before the 5ight takes o/6 "a& #ostal Inspector"s& and a canine pal or two and
they're looking for goodies. Thirdly "kinda unrelated but related& a package that fts %irst +lass
guidelines that is sealed/protected from inspection must be %irst +lass anyway. 2hat about -edia
-ail and other package services "library bound printed material& Standard #ost/-ail etc6 Those
are all sub7ect to search for any or no reason. %or a full list of mail types that can and cannot be
searched click here
Sending items in standard letter/business sized envelopes 8 This seems like a bad idea
because it is and you probably already know that. 9etter/business si4ed envelopes are processed
almost completely by machine. The machine orients faces cancels postage and sorts the
envelopes. It also takes a photo of every single envelope that passes through it "seriously no
shit&. The machines also have a nasty habit of ripping/tearing envelopes. !ll of these things
combined equals not no but hell no to standard envelopes.
Sending items in a padded/bubble mailer 8 This seems to be the most popular "and best&
method among those used for shipping cannabis related items. 0efore :;<< the Small #arcel
0undle Sorting "S#0S& duties for smaller packages like these were handled by a clerk who
manually punched in a code related to the mail type and destination for each package. %rom :;<<
forward all S#0S stations were modifed into !utomatic #arcel 0undle Sorting "!#0S& lines which
utili4e an overhead bar code scanner to scan the bc's previously placed on the package and an
.+= ".ptical +haracter =eader& device. This has helped speed up processing signifcantly.
'nfortunately the front and back ends of this process still involve tired likely pissed o/ and
possibly suicidal homicidal genocidal #ostal employees who take great 7oy in in5icting what ever
damage they can to packages because nobody ever sends them anything nice in the mail.
9ong story short 8 $amage to packages is very common so plan accordingly. 'se poly mailers as
opposed to paper/cardboard/manilla ones which are more susceptible to rips tears etc. Think of
the last time you tried to open a sealed poly mailer. >ou probably cursed up a storm at it "I know I
did& and went reaching for the closest sharp ob7ect. That's what we want.
Addressing ? ! number of people I know swear up and down that using a fake/nick/nonsense
name for a package's addressee and no return address is like totally bust proof man. .ne of
these days they'll sober up for @ or <; minutes and actually listen. Aere is why
fake/nick/nonsense addressee names and no return addresses are a bad idea. %irst and foremost
the postperson. The man or woman who delivers mail on the same route every day B days a
week. They come to know the residencies and residents on their route very well. $espite popular
opinion most postpersons aren't 7ust schleps who stu/ envelopes into bo(es while getting paid
entirely too much. They develop friendships with people on their route they become part of the
community they service. >ou can tell me to get out of here with that %lu/y +louds =ainbows and
Ice +ream +ones bullshit but it's true and it happens a lot. I do all kinds of questionable shit but I
am down as hell with my mail man as is mostly everyone on my street "a lengthy main
thoroughfare at that&.
So the postperson pulls a package out of their bag and says to themselves 1Auh. I've never
delivered anything here under this name before.3 or 12T% is this6 Is there an actual person living
here named 19-C.#363 They might deliver the package once or twice if you're lucky but
eventually instead of a package there's a good chance you're going to get a nice little green slip
stating that a package with your address was not able to be delivered but is available for pick up
at the local #ost .Dce branch. $o you want to fnd out what happens if you were to go claim it at
the branch6 I sure as fuck don't.
If you're doing the combo fake addressee and non?e(istent or no return address deal this can
eventually cause issues as well. 2hen the postperson decides not to deliver the package "for
reasons we've already covered& it goes back to their station/branch. %rom there it is sent to the
return address on the package. If that address is fake/non?e(istent or there isn't one at all the
package will be sent to a 1=eclaimation .Dce3. There they will open the package in an attempt
to deduce who the intended recipient was/is and/or who actually mailed the package so it can be
sent or returned to the right person. If there's goodies in the package you can draw your own
conclusions from there. $epending on how the quantity and what was in the package the
#ostmaster might feel it is worthwhile to get #ostal Inspectors involved and conduct a full on
investigation. %ingerprinting the works. 2hy would you even want to risk sub7ecting yourself to
that6 Is there a strong chance it would happen6 #robably not but is a chance is a chance. I'd
rather take a ;E chance of catching a case than a <E chance of catching one.
This is strictly my opinion but I feel addressing it to the intended person "full name or frst initial
last name& and using a return address is the best way to go and will make you package appear as
legit as possible. %or the return address try fnding an apartment building or comple( near "in the
same 4ip code& where you will be mailing your package. 'se that address 7ust don't include an
apartment number. ! popular trick Is also to include a note in your package stating something
vague and innocuous such as 1+ongratulations we're so proud of youF3 or 1I'm sorry I missed your
birthday I hope I can make it up to youF3 2hat do these notes do6 If the law comes down on a
package recipient these notes can help create something called 1#lausible $eniability3 also
known as =easonable $oubt. 2ith a bit of acting the recipient can simply produce the note
"conveniently still inside the mailer& and say 1I haven't done anything to be congratulated for3 or
1-y birthday isn't until .ctober3 added to 1I don't know anyone at that address in that city town
state whatever/I was not e(pecting any packages. The recipient has created reasonable doubt
and most likely it's going to be far too much e/ort and legwork to try to make a case out the
situation that will stick and hold up in court. ,specially if the package contained seeds or a small
amount of consumable cannabis.
To summari4e 8 -ake your life easy and your packages look legit as hell. 'se the addressee's real
name and a return address where there is a legitimate structure "preferably an apartment
building/comple(&. $on't give a postperson any reason to be suspect of your package. !s far as
they need to know it's 7ust another neatly addressed professional looking normal everyday
package. !s I mentioned at the beginning of this I am avoiding discussing stealth/concealment
methods but obviously that plays a big part in your package's success as well.
PO Boxes #. 0o(es can be useful but also dicey. They are basically a crap shoot and have to be
used very carefully. In all honesty I personally feel they are more trouble than they're worth.
There's a lot of stress involved. 'sually a government issued I$ is required to get a #. 0o(. Since
you obviously don't want to use something with your actual name and address on it you're
probably going to have to resort to nefarious means which I am not going to get into because I'm
not down with shit like that In the slightest. >ou can try to use a business/work I$ badge. Some
clerks will let that slide but they will always ask for a letter with your name and 1street address3
.n It. The whole process gets kind of complicated from there. There are guides out there if you're
really interested in pursuing it. There's always the '#S Store or a similar place but they still have
to get the same info a post oDce does and they are required to turn your info over to the post
oDce in their 4ip code. These may be easier to obtain but there are signifcant downsides. .ne
the clerk there is probably making G or H bucks an hour and gives 4ero fucks. Ae may decide on
a quiet Tuesday night to take a peek into that package that arrived for you. !dditionally
postmasters are known to strong arm the fuck out of these types of places to get whatever info
they want. =ecommendation to avoid.
"anadian Mail
Some things regarding +anadian mail are somewhat diDcult to get straight answers on. The
+anada #ost website is nice and overall informative but still leaves some questions unanswered
regarding things that would be of interest to someone mailing cannabis products. I should send
them an e?mail and request no demand that create a section in their %!Is specifcally for mailing
contraband. That leaves me with the choice of turning to the internet which is predictably
contradictory from site to site and not e(actly !?< in reliability. 2e're going to give this a shot
anyway though. If any nice folks from -e(ico Corth "sorry lol& want to chime in and assist with
this section I'd appreciate itF
Internal Mail !s best as I can surmise +anada #ost seems pretty similar to the 'S#S when it
comes to search and sei4ure of domestic mail. 10reach .f =ights3 seems to be a big thing and
from what I've read the only way a mailing/package can be searched is if there is a law
enforcement agent there warrant in hand. It actually looks like any postal employee who delays
opens or redirects any piece of mail can be sent to prison for up to @ years. The only e(ception I
can see is in regards to ha4ardous materials/safety ha4ards.
The information I'm reading is a few years old but it does mention something interesting. !n
!ppeals +ourt in .ntario ruled that since mari7uana is not considered a serious drug in +anada
anymore it should almost always be e(cluded as evidence in a criminal proceeding. I'm not sure if
that's only applicable in .ntario or how that works or if that ruling even still stands. Interesting
nonetheless.
Mail rom !anada The big issue with a package coming from +anada to 7ust to make it easy
the 'nited States is that the package will have to go through +ustoms. +ustoms does not have
any authority over domestic +anadian mail but they compensate for that tenfold by be giant
dickbags about anything entering the 'nited States that isn't a letter or something that is
physically impossible to be caked in a compound of cocaine powder heroin anthra( and the
ashes of 7esus. Cot only is preparing a package to go through +ustoms time consuming and a pain
in the ass 'S +ustoms agents seem to have carte blanche in terms of searching items and they
e(ercise this ability freely and frequently. If your goal in life is to be a megalomanical humorless
asshole you may want to e(plore a career in +ustoms.
I was unable to fnd any statistics on the percentage of items sent from +anada that end up
getting searched by 'S +ustoms. I was able to fnd some information on how the +ustoms' distro
center works. ,ssentially items are separated into ) groups. The frst group is letters postcards
small items that ft in a regular envelope. These are rarely if ever searched after all it's pretty
diDcult to ta( or apply a fee to a piece of paper. The second group is small packages larger than
a letter but small enough to ft into a normal si4e mailbo(. $ue to the sheer volume of packages
of this type searches are usually only performed when certain conditions are met including the
package's physical properties the addressee the sender etc. The third group is packages
generally over <lb in weight. These are the most frequently searched packages. I'm sure +ustoms
says it's for ta( and fee reasons but there's a H@E chance that that's bullshit <;;E of the time.
.ne of the things I've inferred with the above information is that it is very easy for 'S +ustoms to
target packages coming from specifc shippers. It's a simple matter of logging the packages and it
doesn't have to be each and every one. 2ith this in mind I question why anyone in +anada would
want to operate a seed bank that ships to the 'nited States knowing full well that eventually
there's a chance that a large portion of their packages are going to be intercepted and they may
eventually draw the ire of 'S law enforcement. I also wonder why anyone in the 'S would order
from a +anadian seed bank as from other articles and postings I've read the number of packages
intercepted/sei4ed continues to increase. ,ven if they 7ust sent me a form letter telling me the
package addressed to me was sei4ed because it contained contraband fuck that man. I don't
want to get a letter from +ustoms or $,! or even a 5ier for a local township's police dunk tank
fundraiser. I don't want any of those agencies/people to even know that I exist and the scope of
my activities these days doesn't get much more 1hardcore3 than smoking a few times a week. To
each their own though I suppose.
#verseas Mail Speci$cally %msterdam&'olland&The (etherlands!
"omesti# Mail Aonestly I didn't do any research on this. There doesn't seem to be a si4able
group of people in !msterdam/Aolland/The Cetherland/2T%,ver >ou 2ant To +all It who have a
vested interest in the laws concerning packages shipped domestically. #robably because they're
all at co/ee shops or in their homes getting blif.ted. StereotypesF
Mail Sent rom %msterdam&'olland&The (etherlands -y focus here will be on packages
shipped to the 'nited States since that seems to be the most popular destination for cannabis
related items shipped from this area. !gain these packages fall under the umbrella of the 0illy
0adasses in 'S +ustoms. I was able to fnd some stats regarding the percentage of packages
inspected/searched emanating from this area which stands at around :;E. It seems 'S +ustoms
places e(tra scrutiny on packages sent from 1known drug areas3 such as +olumbia -e(ico and
yes Aolland/The Cetherlands. So I would imagine this makes getting seeds or something related
from that area hit or miss depending on how well it is packaged if the shipper changes their
address with some sort of regularity etc. I'm defnitely open to feedback on this from people who
order seeds from this area with any sort of regularity.
)o*s and )on*ts +or Shipping Packages ,egardless of -ocation
Some of these things are my personal opinions. >ou may agree or disagree with them and I'm
certainly open for discussion either way. -ore information and di/erent ideas are never a bad
thing.
"o$s
$evise and implement a well thought out unique stealthing/concealing method. Spending
a couple of hours coming up with some genius level shit is worth it when being la4y could
land you in the pokey. #ersonally I'd stray away from methods found online. If you can
read them so can everybody else.
'se padded poly mailers. >our packed and sealed mailer should look as close to perfect as
you can get it. !ll the way down to the adhesive 5ap being even. Co bulges no
unevenness the contents should not shift easily inside.
.nly use tape on the outside of your package if it is absolutely necessary. The only
situation I can think of where this would be .J is using a strip of clear packing tape over
the mailer's adhesive 5ap after it has been sealed. There's no reason why that would be
out of the ordinary.
!lways put a return address on your package. ,ither a printed computer label or printed
neatly with a fne point Sharpie marker. !s discussed don't use your address but one that is
an actual "multi?unit& building and preferably one that is in the same 4ip code where your
package will be mailed from.
'se the recipient's full name or frst initial and last name on your package. !gain on a
printed label or printed neatly with a fne point Sharpie. ,arlier I went over an easy way to
help protect your recipient should something go awry on their end.
"on$ts
Cot provide a legitimate return address.
Aave the postmark city be di/erent from the return address city. .ptimally stay in the
same 4ip code.
'se e(cessive postage. If you don't want to or can't buy a cheap postal scale most 'S#S
locations have a scale in their lobby for those doing self?shipping. +reate a dummy
package "the whole shebang minus the goodies& dip in the lobby drop it on the scale add
an ounce or two depending on what you're shipping get out.
'se fake names/nick names/non sense names for the addressee. This was covered in detail
earlier.
!ddress the package to no one 7ust the address.
Aave any writing or markings on the outside of your package other than the addresses.
-isspell city and/or street names etc. It happens more than your think.
2rite names and addresses sloppily. If you can't print neatly go buy some !very labels for
<; bucks and print your stu/ out.
Aave any stains or residue on the outside of your package.
#ackage something that will emit an odor in a way that is nothing short of every possible
thing you can do to prevent that odor from escaping the package.
Send a package unusually heavy for its dimensions lopsided or shaped oddly.
Aave anything at all protruding from the package.
'se aluminum foil. So many people do this and it is on, literally every checklist regarding
suspicious packages.
Send packages individual to individual too frequently especially to the same individual.
Cot have fun.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I spent an entire afternoon putting it together so hopefully
someone gets some use or at least some helpful information out of this. I'm certainly open to
making revisions and/or additions so if you have anything to add or you feel needs to be changed
or modifed feel free to reply to this thread with it. I'm also up for discussion on anything covered
in this guide even if you disagree with me on something or 7ust think I'm an idiot. Someone's
probably said something worse to me at some point "and there's a G*E chance it was my e(?
wife& K&
Thanks again for reading.
