Installation Instructions
Full instructions and install videos are at
www.mdecking.com
Step 1: Plan Your Project.
What shape will your deck be?: This will determine the configuration for your supporting
joists and beams.
What decking pattern will you use?: Withthe available trimandedgingpieces, Millennium
Deckingcanbe built ina variety of different patterns. Youcanevencombine any of our 3colours
for unique trimming and detail patterns.
Railing and Stairs: Millennium Decking should not be used for structural support of the
railing or stairs system, there are many complimentary options available though. Always
follow the manufacturers installation instructions. Millennium Decking does work great
for stair covering applications.
Cutouts: A spa or hot tub can be set on the deck or in the deck. We recommend that you
set the hot tub on the joists and cut the deck around it. Existing trees and rocks can also be
integratedintothe deck by framingaroundthem. Always make sure youhave proper underlying
support to carry the weight and leave enough room for tree growth too.
Step 2: Install the Starter Board.
Millennium Decking is installed from the Wall Side to the Deck Edge Skirt.
Which of Millennium Deckings 3 trim options will you use?: To use our L trim, cut
the board flush with the outside of the deck. To use our U trim, allowthe boards to overhang
at least one inch. To use our end trimonthe endof the deck, you must ripany excess material
fromthe first board at the beginning of the deck. (See our online instructions). Once you know
this and have properly measured your boards out, you are ready to install the starter board.
Install the starter board by running a bead of construction glue along the ledger board (fig
4). Using #8, 2 to 2 1/2 screws, fasten the starter board at each joist along the screwledge.
To avoid splitting, drill pilot holes within 1 of board ends before driving the screws.
Step 3: Install the Second Row of Boards.
Fit the tongue into the groove of the starter board. Using #8, 2 to 2 1/2 screws, fasten
the second rowof boards at each joist along the screwledge. To avoid splitting, drill pilot holes
within 1 of board ends. If you need to butt end planks together, butt ends should always meet
at a joist. Always stagger the butt ends from row to row and space.
Step 4: Finish Installing the Deck.
Repeat Step3for the remainder of the deck boards. Dependingonwhichof MillenniumDeckings
3 trim options is chosen, refer to www.mdecking.comfor complete finishing instructions.
Step 5: Trim the Edges.
The End trim, L trim and U trim can be applied with a premium construction adhesive.
Take into consideration a corner mitre when measuring the proper length of the trim piece.
See www.mdecking.comfor complete instructions.
Step 6: Install Fascia.
Millenniumfascia is manufactured for 2 x10s, however there are guidelines on the reverse side
of the fascia for cutting down to cover 2 x 8s or 2 x 6s. Install cut fascia ripped side up.
Install the fascia with premium construction adhesive.
Please visit www.mdecking.com for complete installation
