Stewardship. For
us this includes
farming in a way
that respects our
land, our
community and
our planet. We
believe this is the
right thing to do
for the
environment, but it is also a key
component of what it takes to make
world-class wine.
It is easy to say that we are
being good environmental stewards, but
we wanted to take it one step farther and
codify our commitment. We decided to
enroll in a program that would formally
certify Troon Vineyard as good
environmental stewards. There are three
different programs to certify vineyards:
biodynamic, organic or sustainable. All
three programs have similar goals – to
tread lightly on the land, to put back into
the land as much as you take from it, to
limit inputs to only what is necessary, and
to see the farm as a complete ecological
system. Each of the three programs has a
set of national or international standards
