August Upcoming Events to watch for :
Mondays in August - Mobile Museum visits; every
Monday at 2:00pm, the local museum will set up a
display of artifacts in the front lobby.
Aug. 4th, 6th & 8th - Enjoy a week of moving &
grooving to tunes by Dia Bassett, B. J. Hughes & Pat
McAlpine.
Aug. 11th - 15th - Shark Week on the BIG screen
broadcasting daily 1:00 to 4:00 with JAWS, Soul
Surfer & on the lighter side of things, Finding Nemo
for evening movies
Aug. 13th - Made from the Heart Jewelery Display
10:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Aug. 14th - Corn Roast & Peach Cobbler
Aug 18th - Euchre Tournament $5/person in support
of Club 55
Aug. 21st - Historic Tour of Carleton Place
Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 14th, 4:00
pm for our Annual Corn Roast. This year we have
added a peach cobbler for dessert, to our event.
The evening dinner will begin at 4:00 pm with
musical entertainment by The Diplomats , dinner will
be served at 5:00pm followed by dessert and more
musical entertainment.
Please dress appropriately as the event will be held
outside on our Patio Terrace, weather permitting. The
evening festivities will wrap up by 7:30pm.
This event is open to outside guests so please ensure
that you sign up at concierge in advance to reserve
your seat and meal.

members enjoyed cotton candy,
popcorn, chocolate dipped
bananas, root beer and orange
crush floats.
Getting to Know Your Neighbor
Lorna & Gordon McNabb met in Ottawa in
1950 and later married in 1954 upon Gordons
graduation from Queens University in Kingston as
a Civil Engineer. The couple travelled to Gordons
first job in British Columbia as a water and
power engineer for the federal government. The
McNabbs have a total of 18 grandchildren.
Gordon is a Carleton Place native, attended public
& high school here. In 1958 Gordon & Lorna
returned to the Ottawa area where Gordon
rose to become Deputy Minister of the Dept. of
Energy, Mines and Resources& then President
of the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research
Council of Canada.
Gordon has served 12 years chairing as a
Community Support in Almonte & the C.P.
Hospital Today Gordons efforts are supporting
the new hospital in CP . His many awards include
11 doctorates from Canadian Universities & 3
Queens Jubilee Medals. He was made an Officer
of the Order of Canada in 1995.
Lornas early years were spent in Lakewood,
New Jersey & came to Canada in 1945 with her
Canadian-born mother & settled in Smiths Falls
& then Ottawa. Her family has deep roots in the
Clayton area of Lanark County. Lorna was Chief
Operating Officer, active breeder and trainer of
championship German Shepherds for almost 20
years & later became an accomplished water color
painter. She currently volunteers at The Hub in
Almonte as the toy lady and is on the board of
a local museum.
