Ninth-grade World History 1500-present

Course Syllabus
S. Walden

The purpose of this course syllabus is to ensure each student the opportunity to successfully
complete the requirements for Ninth-grade World History. Because this course is required for
graduation, it is important that each student be familiar with the contents of this syllabus.
Please read the entire syllabus carefully. If you have any questions, please ask. Parents and
students should read and sign the syllabus. Return the signed portion to Mrs. Walden.

I. Course Description

This course continues the study of world history from 1500 to the present. Critical thinking and
analysis are important to this course. The course directs students to think critically about the
forces that combine to shape the world today. It allows students to analyze development and
changes in the European, Asian, African, and American civilizations and ways in which the
interactions of these cultures have influenced the formation of todays world.

II. Overall Course Objective

I intend for this class to be a solid foundation for future history classes, as well as, provide study
skills necessary for ongoing success. My goal is for you to become a productive member of
society

V. Grading/Grades

All grades are assessed using the point system. Each assignment will be given a point value. To
average grades you must divide the total points you have earned by the total number of points
possible. A variety of work will be assigned most will be graded, some wont. You are
expected to do all work assigned. Graded assignments include tests, quizzes, History Notebook
assignments, projects, etc. Students will also receive a participation grade for their contributions
to classroom discussion.

VI. Make-up Work

Assignments are posted on the board, on your unit calendars, and iNow. If you are absent you
must look up the assignments you missed. You have one week to make up work. The only
exception will be an extend absence; in that case, see me to set up a make-up schedule. I will
not remind you of make-up work, you are responsible for yourself and your grade. You will lose a
minimum of 10 points (each day) for work that is turned in past due dates/times.

VII. History Notebook

Students are required to maintain a World History notebook. Notebook is to be a 5-subject spiral
notebook. The notebook will warm ups, notes, essential questions, RLHs, maps, graphic
organizers, vocabulary, etc.

VIII. Connect 2 Learn (BYOD) Guidelines

In an effort to bring more technology tools into our classroom and to leverage student-owned
technology, Enterprise High School will allow personal technology devices to be brought onto
the campus and used for educational purposes. Portable computer, tablet, iPad, iTouch, Kindle
Fire, smartphones, etc. are acceptable devices. These devices will be used for educational
purposes only. Students are not allowed to use 3G or 4G connections. Your teacher and
Enterprise High School will not be responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen devices. Use of the
personal technology devices will follow the Terms of Agreement as set forth in the Enterprise City
School Board of Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement. The rules of the Connect 2 Learn
classroom will be followed or the usage privileges will be revoked.

X. Rules/Procedures

Class Rules
1. Be seated when the bell rings.
2. Pay attention NO sleeping, laying head down, covering eyes, etc.
4. Be courteous and respectful of others
5. NEVER use the word retarded society has turned this into a slang derogatory word that
is all too common in the majority of the adolescent population.
6. Follow all school rules

Connect 2 Learn (BYOD) Rules
1. Turn cell phone off and place on right corner of desk.
2. Other devices (such as tablets, laptops, etc.) should be off unless teacher request otherwise.
3. Always log on to BOE Network.
4. Only school related searches and uses allowed.
5. NO TEXTING on any device!
6. NO SOCIAL NETWORKING
Classroom Desktop Rules
1. Keep desk clear of any food and/or drinks when using the laptops.
2. Sign in on laptop using user name and password (see Library for this information)
3. Save work to YOUR Google Drive.
3. Only school related searches and uses allowed.
4. NO TEXTING or SOCIAL NETWORKING.
5. Do not change any settings on the laptop and use only the applications/programs assigned
by your teacher

**You get 2 passes out of class. You may cash in your unused passes at the end of the 9
weeks for 10 points each. That averages to 1 point on your final grade for each pass. These are
the only BONUS points you can earn in my class. Use wisely!

**Per the handbook, the following items are NOT ALLOWED in the classroom, back packs, book,
tote or gym bags, water bottles, and tumblers. Hang purses on the chair backs or place them on
the basket under your seat.
