We cant solve a problem with the same thinking that created it - Einstein
Welcome to this years section of Advanced Algebra 2/Trig! This year we will focus on problem solving by diving deeper into Algebra 2 as well as delving into some trigonometry topics in preparation for Pre-Calculus, the ACT and College. Our classroom culture will focus on leadership, teamwork, problem solving and professionalism. This year will be extremely rigorous and require 100% effort. Please take a moment during an evening after school this week to look over the syllabus with your scholar and return the last page of this syllabus signed and filled out by Wednesday, August 6. It will count as your scholars first quiz grade. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions or concerns.
Im looking forward to a great year!
Ms. Udell

*All information is subject to change! Topics
Unit Title Description Module 1: Solving systems of equations Scholars will use graphing, elimination and substitution. Scholars will also work with matrices to store and manipulate data as well as solve systems of 3 equations Module 2: Sequences and Series Scholars will explore arithmetic and geometric series to find sums, convergence and divergence. Module 3: Conic Sections Scholars will work with complex numbers and quadratic functions, as well as graph parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas. Module 4: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Scholars will explore exponential and linear relationships and apply them to real life scenarios. Module 5: Trigonometric Functions Scholars will explore the properties of right triangles, the unit circle, and trigonometric graphs
Grading Policy
What makes up your grade? Quizzes and tests are the most heavily weighted aspects of your grade. Before each major quiz or test scholars will receive a study guide at least two days prior to their exam to help them study. Classwork will make a large portion of your grade as well. Classwork grades include do nows, class activities, notebook checks, checks for understanding (CFUs), and exit tickets. Each unit will have an in-depth project in addition to small group projects to be completed in class. You will also receive a weekly participation grade based on our classroom values: leadership, teamwork, problem solving, and professionalism.
Tutoring My office hours are currently Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45. Please let me know in advance via email or sign up in class if you are planning to attend. Any change in these hours will be communicated.
Latework Late homework will be docked 20% and can be turned in up to two days late. After two days no late work will accepted.
Absences
YOU are responsible for collecting work you missed from the make up folder and making sure it is turned in. You will have three days from your absence to turn in your missing assignments.
Expectations
Scholars are expected to: 1. Follow all directions the first time given 2. Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat 3. Communicate professionally and respectfully to peers and to Ms. Udell 4. Make Smart Choices 5. Come prepared mentally and with all your materials
Consequences
Consistently meeting classroom expectations will result in class-wide treats, homework passes, positive notes, and positive phone calls home. I follow GCSs Progressive Discipline system for negative consequences.
Academic Goals
This year we will be focusing on 3 academic goals:
1. All scholars will grow at least 2 years on the NWEA 2. All scholars will complete 90% of homework/projects 3. All scholars will score 85% on participation rubric
Academic Integrity
All scholars have signed the GCS Code of Honor and are expected to produce their own work. Any assignment that does not meet the expectations outlined in the code will result in a referral and a 0. *All information is subject to change! Please complete the following form and return it only to Ms. Udell by Wednesday August 6 for your first quiz grade to acknowledge that you have read and understand the expectations of this class.
