*Afternoon workshops are offered twice, allowing participants to select two different areas of study.
Airway Workshop: The advanced airway skills workshop will focus on developing critical skills necessary for the management of difcult
airways. Participants will utilize video laryngoscopes, supraglottic airways, and rescue devices in simulated difcult airways. The goal is
to develop an organized approach to the difcult airway and learn tricks of the trade to succeed in any environment.
EKG Workshop: This workshop will review the quick yet systematic interpretation of an EKG, then consider the utility of the EKG in the
management of a variety of common emergency department patients. Emphasis will be on differentials of ST-elevation and wide QRS
complex - two lists with particular importance for many ED diagnoses.
Ultrasound Workshop: This year's ultrasound workshop will focus on patients in respiratory distress. Participants will image the heart
and lungs to aid early diagnosis of pulmonary edema, pneumothorax, pericardial effusions and endotracheal tube placement.
Wilderness Medicine Workshop: This workshop will focus on the management of common medical and traumatic injuries in austere
environments. Participants will make splints, rope carries, and
practice basic wound management through hands-on improvisation
techniques.
