A job acceptance letter is generally short and expresses your enthusiasm for the position
offered. It also serves as confirmation of the details of the position, such as your salary and
starting date. There are three parts to a job acceptance letter:
1. You accept the position and express your thanks for the offer.
2. You confirm the details and ask any questions that have not been answered
3. You provide a pleasant closing that expresses your enthusiasm for the opportunity.

Dear Uncle,
Samia and I were saddened by the unhappy news of Jamal’s demise. His

DECLINING INVITATION AND REQUEST FOR FAVOR
Dear Sam,
The International Institute of Chemical Engineering (IICE) has a great deal to offer
university professors, and I have enjoyed the annual conference for several years. I
appreciate very much invitation to be the keynote speaker for this year’s conference in Bara
Gali, Abbotabad on July 14, 2005.
The date of the conference is, unfortunately, during a two-week period when I will be
in New Zealand for meeting with a research group. I did make an effort to reschedule these
meetings, but I was unable to do so. I regret not being able to address this important forum
and having to miss the conference itself.
May I suggest that you contact Dr. Sobia, our newly sleeted professor in charge of
research council for innovation in Chemical Engineering Education. She is eager to become
more involved in the IICE and had interesting experiences related to this year’s conference
theme, “Trends in Chemical Engineering Education”. I am enclosing her address and cellular
number in case you would like to contact her.
You have my best wishes for getting the right person. The conference plans look
terrific.
Thanks

LETTER OF INVITATION FOR SPEAKER TO ADDRESS CONVECTION
R/Sir,
By unanimous vote, the executives of the association have asked that I write you to our convention
speaker on May 7, 2005. That convention is for our 500 students who have achieved high distinction in their
studies at our university.
Two professors, who sit on our planning commission, placed your name in nomination with full
support of the university administration. Thus you were our only nominee to be the convention speaker on May
7, 2005.
We are fully aware of your busy schedule. However, your recent book on the issue of urban
environmental problems could serve as the basis for a timely statement on our campus. As you vividly state in
your book, you feel the concerns of the environment will have to be carried forward by the young people of the
future. Our convention and dinner that evening of the young people and university faculty would provide both a
formal and informal setting for your remarks.
We are prepared to cover all travel and hotel costs while on campus. I personally will pick you up at
the airport.
Please let us know by April 1, 2005 your decision on giving the convention lecture. I will then be in
contact with you concerning other details.
Best Regards
Anjum Baig

I feel that it is important for me to maintain a practical, real-world perspective while developing my
academic abilities. I am proud of the fact that I have financed my entire education through scholarships and
summer jobs related to my field of study. This work experience has enhanced my appreciation for the
education I am pursuing. I find that I learn as much from my summer jobs as I do from my academic studies.
For example, during the summer of 1998, while working for Engro Chemicals in Karachi, Pakistan, I gained a
great deal of practical experience in the field of programmable logic controller and ladder logic design. When I
returned to university in the fall and took Computer Hardware Design, I found that my experience with Engro
Chemicals had thoroughly prepared me for the subject.
Having said all this, I realize that your first consideration in hiring an applicant must not be the
potential educational experience ARL can provide, but the skills and services the applicant has to offer. I hope
the experience and education described in my resume suggest how I might be of service to ARL.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss with you how I might best assist ARL in fulfilling its present
corporate needs. I will be available for employment from May 14 through August 31, 1999. Please let me know
what summer employment opportunities are available at ARL for someone with my education, experience, and
interests. You can reach me at the above address or by phone at (0300) 5862514. Thank you for your
consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Mohammad Arif

Your advertisement for chemical engineers in the Daily NEWS on September 27, 2001 caught my
attention. I was drawn to the ad by my strong interest in both reactor design and software.
I have worked with ICI Pakistan in designing and fabrication of batch as well as Plug flow reactors, and
I also have substantial experience in the design of interactive CAD software. Because of this experience, I can
make direct and immediate contribution to your department. I have enclosed a copy of my resume, which
details my qualifications and suggests how I might be of service to Database.
I would like very much to meet with you to discuss your open positions for software engineers. If you
wish to arrange an interview, please contact me at the above address or by telephone at (518) 271-9999.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Aslam Javed
