The ZPP-6 Time Zone Panel provides six channels of automatic
time signal distribution for class changes. The ZPP-6 uses the
existing P.A. Speakers to transmit the signal into the
classrooms. The tone generator in the ACP-2B or the optional
MTG-7B Tone Generator (see the MTG-7B Tone Generator
Installation Guide) can be used to generate the tones. External
contact closures are used to enable tone distributions.
Installation
Before installing the ZPP-6, make sure that the power to the
system is turned off. The ZPP-6 plugs onto the rear terminals
of the SB103-25 or the SB104-25A Selector Panel. Carefully
align the ZPP-6 sockets with the Selector Panel pins and push
the ZPP-6 onto the pins. This requires a considerable amount of
force, consequently this must be done carefully so as not h to
damage either unit. Incoming cables from the classrooms are
terminated onto the rear terminals of the ZPP-6.
The ACP-2B wiring terminates onto the ZPP-6 Unit via a
harness connector located on the left, rear side of the unit (refer
to drawings S-N20 and S-N20-B). It is designated as Cable
Harness "A" and carries the audio buses, commons and 28
VDC to the ZPP-6. The ZPP-6 is pre-wired with Cable Harness
"C" providing connection between the ZPP-6 and Selector
Panel.
Connections to the Program Clock (in the ACP-2B Unit) are
made via the six pin header (J3) located on the right side of the
ZPP Unit. Diodes D1 through D6 are external and must be
provided by the Field Technician. When using the MTG-7B
Tone Generator, a diode matrix is required to program specific
tones to sound at selective channels (see the MTG-7B Tone
Generator Installation Guide). Also see drawing S-N20-B.
Programming
Each classroom can be programmed to any one or more of the
six Program Channels. This is achieved simply by inserting the
shunts over the desired Program Channel header (JP1- JP25) of
the classroom requiring the time signal as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Program Channel Configuration
Example: A typical school has class changes every hour.
This is set up on the Master Clock, requiring a contact closure
every hour on Program Channel #1. In order for a tone to sound
in the classrooms, a shunt must be inserted in the first channel
of all headers associated with the classrooms which require the
tone. In addition to all classrooms requiring the class change
signal, the Gym areas require a tone to sound 10 minutes prior
to the end of the class to allow the students to dress for class.
This time schedule is set up on the Master Clock, resulting in a
contact closure 10 minutes before the hour on Channel #2. In
order for a tone to sound in the Gym areas, a shunt must be
inserted into the second channel of the headers associated with
the Gym areas. If no Time Tone is desired in a specific area,
the shunts may be left out of the corresponding header.
Theory of Operation
During normal operation (no time signals), the classrooms are
connected to the ACP-2B audio buses through individual relays
on the ZPP-6. During a time signal, the relays engage
connecting the classrooms which have been programmed via
the shunts to the "ZPP" bus, which carries the Time Tone.
The Program Clock contacts are used to complete the electrical
circuit which engages the individual classroom relays on a zone
basis. In addition to the above, the Program Clock contacts also
activate the Clock Tone (Terminal 29) on the ACP-2B. The
diodes are required to isolate the six zones from each other.
ACP-2B Modifications
An additional relay must be installed into the ACP-2B when
using the ZPP-6 Time Zone Panel. This relay is factory
installed whenever a system is ordered with the ZPP-6 option.
However, if your existing system is upgraded with a ZPP-6
unit, this relay must be installed onto the ACP-2B. The
location of this relay is indicated on the board as well as on the
schematic. Jumpers JP16 and JP17 must be removed.
