Introduction
In this report I will reflect critically on the team working experienced while working on
a presentation along with five students mentioned on the front page. I will mainly be
referring to Tuckman and Jensens model on teamwork throughout this report as a basis
of explanation of issues that may or may not have arisen during the time working as a
team. I will be also implementing other relevant theories that help explain these issues.
Reflection on teamwork
Although one of our members were missing on the first class where team mates were
introduced I felt the first stage of Tuckman and Jensens model of Team !evelopment
was clearly seen in the rest of us present. "ach instance of the first stage was seen#
polite introductions were made and early plans were made and ideas were exchanged.
At this stage I feel that we werent yet a $team% but still a $group% as we didnt have a
lot of the key traits of a $team% such as trust and real roles each of us could play. After
the first meeting we exchanged email addresses and decided on the date for the next
meeting that all of us could make.
Although none were instructed to all team members did some background reading on
the topic at hand and we felt we all had a basic knowledge of it. !uring the second
meeting we met the member who was absent during the first class. I felt we partly
advanced to the next stage of team development but due to first meeting of Anna we
did not advance fully. I felt we fully became a team during the second meeting where
we all decided on roles to take in the presentation. &e went away agreeing to do a
thorough research on each portion of the topic we were given. I felt during this meeting
'uke became the clear leader of this group. (e showed skills and traits of a leader such
as being the $Teamworker% role explained by )elbin. I felt this was shown by his
taking initiative and emailing the missing member and briefing her on the work we
needed to be doing.
&e each went away with an idea of what to research and agreed on another date for the
next meeting. I felt the next meeting was not very productive at all. *i +eom was not
present due to visa issues so we discussed what we had done so far. ,ext meeting
however I felt we had advanced into stage two of team development as a few problems
emerged. *i +eom was once again not present for this meeting due to having not done
any work for this presentation. I felt this problem occurred due to differing priorities in
our studies. Another problem that occurred was that *i +eom wished to not meet again
until the actual class date where we would have to present our work. &e all agreed that
this would risk us losing marks on the day and persuaded *i +eom to come to the next
meeting. I think shows advancement into the third stage of team development as we
clarified what we all expected of each other and developed a better working
relationship.
-ver the next few meetings I felt we advanced into the fourth stage of team
development. This was shown by an eagerness of emailing work to the leader of the
group 'uke who was given the role of producing the .ower .oint slide show. I think
this showed us meeting standards and ob/ectives with minimal conflict. 0inally on the
day we completed the presentation and so entered the final stage of team development.

3. 1ommunication is most important. &ithout communicating each ones skills and
problems team members will not be able to know if anything is wrong and will
not be able to trade roles to which they are more suited.
4. .lanning is necessary. &ithout planning our work carefully I feel we would have
simply run out of time and not be able to finish to our full potential.
5. .ractise is necessary. I feel this is one aspect where we didnt meet the right
standards and could have improved on and thus improved our mark.
