POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Director of Student Development and Campus Vibrancy, the Assistant Director will have primary
responsibility for creating and sustaining the dynamic, values-driven campus-wide leadership development
initiatives. As part of the Office of Student Development and Campus Vibrancy the AD will have a diversified and
exciting range of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:
The ideal candidate must possess a masters degree in student development, counseling, student affairs, or
related field, or have equivalent substantive experience working in student affairs
The position requires a dynamic individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well
as the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, families,
alumni, and the public in a comprehensive university environment.
The Assistant Director must have experience working with student leaders and a strong background in
leadership development and identity development theories.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities (please note that any physical requirements should be listed as a part
of relevant essential functions, i.e. lifting requirements, equipment operations, etc.). Through a strong student
empowerment model the AD will strategically:
Provide vision and strategic direction for a comprehensive and progressive leadership development
initiative at Stetson that spans a students undergraduate career.
Planning and implementing various experiential opportunities in partnership with University departments
including Alternative Break Trips with the Center for Community Engagement, the annual Social Justice
Leadership Retreat with the Cross Cultural Center, an annual professional and ethical leadership week
aimed at 3rd and 4th year students with Career Development, and targeted leadership development
opportunities for students in each class year with First Year and Transition Programs.
Lead, brand and cultivate the Global Leadership Program, a 3.5 year experiential program that provides
students with a holistic, innovative, and transformative experience.
Develop and implement the Stetson LEAD (Leadership Development and Education) Program, a
comprehensive campus-wide leadership development initiative open to all students and based within the
Social Change Model and Relational Leadership models, as well as positive psychology.
Plan and facilitate leadership development workshops, presentations, simulations, self-assessment
instruments, retreats, group discussions, and feedback sessions as part of the LEAD initiative with a high
level of collaboration with university faculty, Transition Programs, Cross Cultural Center, Wellness,
Career Development, Center for Community Engagement, and Fraternity and Sorority Involvement.
Recruit and supervise a committee of 8 student coordinators to administer and support the Stetson LEAD
program.
Create a leadership speakers bureau utilizing current administrators and staff who are able to give
presentations and workshops around various topics related to leadership. Launch and maintain this resource
for student groups and professors as a way to provide more intentional leadership development to
organizations and students.

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director for Leadership Development

Perform a bi-annual training for students, faculty, and staff who are interested in serving in facilitator or
advisory roles around alternative breaks and other experiential learning opportunities.
Assist with the leadership development training and advising of student leaders for clubs and organizations
in partnership with the Assistant Director of Student Governance and Organizations.
Design and implement three Hatter Trek summer experiential pre-orientation and transition programs.
Co-Supervise one graduate assistant.
May serve as a conduct hearing officer and member of the divisional on-call crisis response team as
needed.
Manage a budget as well as be proficient using web-based tools for advertising, web design, and
recordkeeping.
Perform other intentional duties that contribute to the University mission as assigned.
