JUST A CLOSER WALK THE CHURCH’S ONE
WITH THEE FOUNDATION

Refrain Verse I
Just a closer walk with Thee, The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord,
Grant it Jesus, if You please? She is His new creation by water and the word;
Daily walking close to Thee, From heav’n He came and sought Her
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be. To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
Verse I And for her life He died.
I am weak but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong; Verse II
I’ll be satisfied as long Elect from ev’ry nation, Yet one o’er all the earth,
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee. Her charter of salvation, One Lord, One faith, one birth;
Repeat Refrain One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses, with ev’ry grace endured.
Verse II
Through this world of toil and snares, Verse III
If I falter, Lord who cares? ‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war,
Who with me my burden shares? She waits the consummation of peace for evermore;
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee. Till with the vision glorious, Her longing eyes are blest,
Repeat Refrain And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.
Verse I
When my feeble life is o’er, Verse IV
Time for me will be no more; Yet she on earth hath union with God, the Three in One,
Guide me gently, safely o’er And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest
To Thy kingdom shore, to thy shore. is won;
Repeat Refrain O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us Grace that we
Like them, the meek and lowly, In love may dwell
with Thee.

Atlantic Records in March of 2006. The problem is that the record label wants to market the 14
year old as a sexpot, but she does not want that image.
Keke admits “From the very beginning, Atlantic’s A&R representative tried to get me to record
inappropriate music, and my parents and I resisted.”
Soon, Keke and her mom became tired of fighting the negative images that the label kept trying to
force on her, and they started looking for a management company that could deal with the situation. They
settled on DAS Entertainment, a management company out of New York. (John Legend’s label). One
problem, the label has been blocking the efforts!

STEWARDSHIP

the results of a Redeemed LifE

TITHING TEACHES. It is very clear that God, through his unconditional
love for us, blessed us with many talents so that we would be good stewards of
His creation. God said for us to, “Fill the earth and subdue it.”

VOLUNTEERISM. “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down
his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

We are borne out in Jesus’ life and his death on the cross, and have served
down through the centuries as the impetus for disciples of Christ to give of
their time and talent to many varied ministries.

OUR FAITH JOURNEY. Our faith journey can be helped by our seeing,
understanding and accepting our stewardship. We affirm our faith by our
actions. Those actions are the use of our gifts and our talents and are, thus,
acts of stewardship.

The deeper and stronger our faith, the more consistently we will perform acts
of charity, peace and freedom that build the kingdom of God on Earth.

THE PLEASURE OF GIVING. The only real happiness in this world

derives from doing something for others. It must be done of your own free
will to produce full gratification. There is no real satisfaction in giving merely
to get a tax deduction, or because someone hounded you to do so.

Don’t deny yourself the pleasure of giving because you want to. Remember:
Giving is the start of living.

Your Friends in Service,

The Stewardship Ministry

SPECIAL
OrderANNOUNCEMENT
of Worship
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

D
omestic Violence is a pattern of physical, sexual, psychological, and/or economic abuse,
threats, intimidation, isolation, or coercion used by one person to exert power and con-
trol over another person in the context of a current or former dating, family, household,
or care giving relationship.

Most of the reported cases of domestic violence occur within intimate partner relationships.

Does your partner:

• prevent you from making personal decisions?
• control your access to money and/or your ability to make or spend money?
• embarrass you with put downs or name calling?
• keep you from spending time with your family or friends?
• tell you you’re a bad parent, threaten to take away or hurt the children?
• intimidate or threaten you?
• physically harm you; i.e. grab, push, pinch, shove, slap, punch, etc.?
• destroy your property or threaten to harm your pet?
• pressure or force you to have sex or engage in sexual activities you are not comfortable with?
• blame you for their actions?
• make you feel inferior to them because of your gender, level of education, economic class, etc.?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be in an abusive relationship.
If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship, help is available. Please contact the City
of Chicago Domestic Violence Helpline at 877-TO END DV (877-863-6338) to receive informa-
tion regarding all the domestic violence services including shelters, legal assistance, and counseling
available in the city and suburbs.
Domestic Violence is never “just a private family matter,” it affects our entire society. It is every-
one’s business.

“The ruin of a nation begins in the homes of its people.” African Proverb

Please visit the Silent Witness Project in the upstairs narthex after service today. Contact Anika
Sterling (773) 297-1027 or Nate Blackman (773)297-6344 for information regarding the Domestic
Violence Ministry.
