1. DRR Terminology PPT (all content), including examples.
Safety is the state of being "safe" the condition of being protected from the event or from exposure to something that causes health or economic losses. Safety includes protection of people and property against non-desirable events. (Warning signs) Security is the degree of protection against danger, loss, and criminals causes health or economic losses. Security has some concepts: (safety, continuity, reliability) Emergency - Disaster: Affects people, Usually triggered by a hazard, Directly related to vulnerability, Exceeds capacity of household, community or group of people to cope Type of disasters: Natural, Man made, Complex
A hazard is a physical or human-made even that can potentially trigger a disaster(POTENTIAL THREAT). Examples include earthquakes, mudslides, floods, volcanic eruptions (ivi) Risk: The probability of the non-desirable event happening. Risk is related to the expected losses which can be caused by a risky event and to the probability of this event. Risk analysis requires determining the probability of the disaster happening. (dandik ayakkabnla iviye basma ihtimalin) Vulnerability: the degree to which people are susceptible(yatkn) to loss, damage, suffering and death, in the event of a disaster.(dandik ayakkabda ayana ivi batnca
Disaster Preparedness: Ability to predict, respond to and cope with the effect of a disaster Disaster Mitigation: Measures taken in advance of a disaster aimed at reducing its impact on society and the environment. Disaster Prevention: Activities designed to provide permanent protection from disasters
2. Draw the Emergency Management Cycle and briefly explain the two main components of it. Risk Management: The systematic approach and practice of managing uncertainty to minimize potential harm and loss Risk analysis is a technique used to identify and assess factors that may jeopardize the success of a project or achieving a goal Crisis management is the process by which an organization deals with a major event that threatens to harm the organization, its stakeholders, or the general public
3. Write three core components of the Organization Disaster Risk Reduction Plan and give one specific examples for each. Risk Assessment and Planning: Be aware of vulnerable groups and individuals. Physical Protection: Maintain the building, repairing damage when it occurs. Response Capacity: Train Staff on first aid. 4. First Aid: a) Write down 3 components of the First Aid? 1) Protection, Call for Help, Immediate Help b) List down the steps of the Call for Help. When someone has been hurt or has had an accident, the first thing to do is get help. Dial an emergency number: 112 for an ambulance, 110 for the fire department, 155 for the police. When you call for help you should be able to give correct information. An ambulance needs to know where the injured person is located and what exactly has happened. In some cases, you will be given instructions on what to do until a doctor or ambulance arrives.
c) List down the steps of the Protection. Evaluation of scene (event location) for providing safe environment. Mark the scene to appear sufficiently (with security band). Placed the warning signs in front of and behind the scene to avoid the danger of a possible accident. Turn of the vehicle. Do not allow for smoking cigarette on the scene.
5. Fire Definition & Fire Safety: Explain the P.A.S.S Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the top handle or lever, Sweep from side to side 6. What is the Risk Formula and List on the Risk Analysis Process in terms of the Business Continuity; 9 steps 1. Identify responsible unit 2. Assemble the team 3. Identify the hazards 4. Analyse hazards - Vulnerabilities - Manageability 5. Quantify the risks (risk assessment) 6. Analyse risk reduction 7. Report to decision makers 8. Get full support from top management. 9. Share with all workers 7. Draw a Risk Analysis Matrix (RAM) and -Risk= Likelihood x Impact; D = B x C
