Organic forms are forms with a natural look and a flowing or curving appearance. For this reason, they are often also referred to as curvilinear forms. Examples of organic forms include leaves, plants, and shells.
Materials: 1. White Paper: Experiment with different types - bristol, drawing, tracing 2. Adhesive: Elmers glue, clear tape, thread, fishing line 3. Exacto knife or scissors
Rules 1. Use white paper only unless discussed by the instructor. (focus on form, not color) 2. Forms can hang from fishing string or sit on a pedestal. 3. All forms must be organic. 4. No hot glue, staples. 5. Hide the engineering. Tape or glue may not be seen. 6. Keep it neat! Craftsmanship is key!!
Getting started Draw at least 5 different objects. (Quiz grade) 3 Different Maquettes 4-6 in size (Quiz Grade)
First, start by brainstorming different organic forms. Look to nature for inspiration. In your Sketch Book, draw objects from nature. Find images or objects that give you inspiration. Draw at least 5 different objects. (Quiz grade) Then move on to experimenting with form by making a Chinese lantern. As you continue, experiment by cutting slits or score onto a sheet of paper, then twist and turn the paper to create a various unique forms. Try a variety of designs that may yield different results. Make 3 different Maquettes Consider organic shape, volume, space, and light. Use Scotch tape, white tape, or adhesive to adhere corners or faces together. Tape may show on the Maquettes, but not on the final project.
