Welcome to Theater One, Two and Three.
Students enrolled in CCHS Theater classes will gain self-confidence while tapping into their
own creativity. Students will learn to work collaboratively with others eventually leading to
working independently on or off the stage. Students will also learn to be critical listeners and
viewers. Students will specifically gain hands on knowledge in various aspects of theater
which include: Observation, Pantomime, Improvisation, Stage Movement and Direction,
Voice Articulation and Production, Ensemble Work, Character Analysis, Character
Development and Critical Analysis. Students will also have the opportunity to increase their
public speaking abilities.
Theater One
All Theater One students will gain basic introductory knowledge of the theater and stage.
Students will build confidence through ensemble performances. In the first semester
students will not be required to perform monologues or as a solo performer. Students will
perform various skits focusing on Pantomime and Improvisation. Ultimately, students will
focus on Character Analysis and Critique. Students will also focus on Character
Development and be able to perform in an ensemble production.
Theater Two
All Theater Two students will build on their prior knowledge to enhance their overall
performance skills. Theater Two students will focus on Scene Building and Development,
Forms of Theater, Dramatic Acting, Play Analysis, Critique, Shakespeare, and History of
Theater. Ultimately students will be performing in a variety of scenes of up to 4 people as
well as performing a polished monologue. Students must also audition for at least one main
stage production during the year as part of their class participation grade. Students will have
to write a critical analysis report on one play performance of their choosing as part of their
end of the year final grade.

Theater Three
All Theater Three students will build on their prior knowledge to enhance their performance
skills. Students will perform monologues and various scenes as well as ensemble pieces.
Students will also learn the various aspects of theater from pre-production to post
production. Ultimately Theater Three students will learn the process of directing a play. As
part of their end of the year final students will select a one act play which they will direct
themselves. Students will follow the outlined process and use their knowledge to critique
and outline their work in a final self evaluation report at the end of the year. Students will
also select a student performance piece to evaluate and critique.

Materials Required:
1. All students are required to have a positive attitude.
2. Pencils no pens!
3. A spiral bound notebook with college ruled paper or 8 x 11
4. A sketch or drawing pad.
All students are expected to have the required materials for every class. Students may be
asked to provide their own materials in advance for specific projects, but will be given ample
time in advance to bring additional materials to class.
Class Rules
1. Attendance is mandatory. Students are required to attend every lecture and
complete assignments in a timely manner. It is the students responsibility to make up any
absent work. Students are also responsible to acquire and become familiar with all class
notes, handouts or presentations.
2. Students are expected to be respectful of the instructor and their classmates. This
includes no talking during presentations and class lectures. Students will be required to
make class presentations through performance throughout the year as part of their grade.
3. No horseplay! Students engaging in any inappropriate physical activity will be subject
to the discipline policy. Continued violation will result in removal from the class.
4. No cell phone use, tablet or electronic device use is permitted during class unless it
is required during the days presentation as part of the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
policy.
5. Please remember to allows wear appropriate clothing on days we are performing.
6. Be respectful while in the theater and on the stage. No running while on the stage or in
the theater.
7. No food or drink is allowed in class or in the theater at any time. You are permitted to
have bottled water while in room 804 or if you are working in the theater yard.
Violation of any of these rules will result in a warning followed by written disciplinary action.
Continued violation of rules will result in further disciplinary action as defined by the district
discipline policy.
Grading:
Participation (scene work) 100-200 points 20 %
Critiques and Analysis 200 points (Midterm and Final 400 points) 30%
Unit Tests and Quizzes 200 points (Final Exam 400 points) 30%
Weekly Assignments 100-200 points 20%
Total 100%
*Monologues will be considered as part of the scene work grade.

Absent Work
It is the students responsibility to make up any assignment. For any excused absence a
student has one day to make up the assignment. It is also the students responsibility to
notify the instructor of any extended absences. If an assignment is missed the assignment
will be marked down one letter grade. After five consecutive days the assignment will be
weighted for 50% of the total points possible. If the assignment is not completed two weeks
from the due date the assignment will be recorded as a zero incomplete. Performance
pieces must be made up either before school, at lunch or after school and must be
scheduled 5 days in advance. Students have until 3pm on the assignment due date to turn
the assignment into the instructor. Additional arrangements must be cleared by the
instructor.
