SAP Add-On Installation Tool (SAINT) Phases

This list describes the phases in the order in which the Add-On Installation Tool (transaction SAINT) runs:
Module: Preparation
1. PROLOGUE
In this phase, the system checks whether you have the authorization to import packages.
2. CHECK_REQUIREMENTS
In this phase the system checks various prerequisites for the import procedure, such as the logon of the
transport control program tp to your system.
3. DISASSEMBLE
In this phase the data files are unpacked from their corresponding EPS packages, and are stored in the
transport directory.
4. CREATE_COMPONENTS
In this phase the software components, currently being installed, are initialised.
5. ADD_TO_BUFFER
This phase puts the queue into the transport buffer of your system.
6. MODIFY_BUFFER
In this phase, the transport buffer is prepared for correct processing of the following import phases.
7. IMPORT_OBJECT_LIST
This phase imports object lists of the packages located in the queue into the system.
8. OBJECTS_LOCKED_?
This phase checks whether any objects are being overwritten during the import and are in unreleased
requests.
9. CHECK_INACT_OBJECTS
This phase checks whether there are objects, which are currently inactive.
10. TEST_IMPORT
This phase performs a test import for the current queue using tp. It checks if there are objects that are in
open repairs and will be overwritten during the import, or if any other circumstances are preventing an
object from being imported successfully.
11. ADDON_CONFLICTS_?
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase checks for conflicts with imported Support Packages that have a higher version than the
import prerequisites for the add-on.
If another add-on is already installed, SAINT checks whether Support Packages included as import
prerequisites for the add-on being installed conflict with the already installed add-on. It also checks
whether the new add-on has direct object conflicts with the add-on already installed.
12. SCHEDULE_RDDIMPDP
This phase schedules the transport domain (program RDDIMPDP).
Module: Import 1
13. CREATE_VERS_BEFORE
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase creates versions for objects of packages in the installation queue, if this option is selected.
14. SPDD_SPAU_CHECK
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase checks whether a modification adjustment (transaction SPDD/SPAU) is required.
15. DDIC_IMPORT
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase imports the ABAP Dictionary objects contained in the queue.
16. AUTO_MOD_SPDD
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase checks whether modifications to ABAP Dictionary objects can be automatically adjusted.
17. RUN_SPDD_?
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase asks you to adjust the modifications you have made to ABAP Dictionary objects by calling
transaction SPDD.
18. LOCK_EU (For import mode Downtime-minimized only)
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase locks the development environment.
19. INACTIVE_IMPORT (nur bei Einspielmodus Downtime-minimized)
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase imports program code and program texts in an inactive state.
Module: Import 2
20. DDIC_ACTIVATION
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase activates the imported ABAP Dictionary objects.
21. IMPORT_PROPER
This phase imports all Repository objects and table entries, provided they were not already imported
during the phase INACTIVE_IMPORT. Before this, activities such as table conversion or nametab
activation take place.
22. PREPARE_XPRA
This phase prepares the XPRAs and the after-import methods execution.
23. UNLOCK_EU (For import mode Downtime-minimized only)
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase unlocks the development environment.
24. AUTO_MOD_SPAU
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase checks whether modifications can be automatically adjusted.
25. XPRA_EXECUTION
The phase executes the XPRAs and after-import methods.
26. ABAP_GENERATION
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase generates the runtime objects for the imported Repository objects (ABAP source code,
screens).
Module: Clean Up
27. RUN_SPAU_?
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase asks you to adjust modifications you made to Repository objects, by calling transaction SPAU.
28. CLEAR_OLD_REPORTS (For import mode Downtime-minimized only)
This phase applies only to the installation or upgrade of add-ons (not PCS).
This phase identifies versions of program code and program texts that have become obsolete, and
deletes them from the database.
29. EPILOGUE
This phase completes the import and registers the add-on.
