These statistics were derived by taking the amount of all current
violent games (as of June 23, 2014) and dividing them by
the amount of all games rated by the ESRB (as of June 23, 2014)
then applying that percentage to every game unit sale per year.
It should also be noted that this is not representing violent games
sold ONLY to minors.

A violent game is a game with the rating of violence
within its game rating, described as Scenes involving
aggressive conflict. May contain bloodless
dismemberment by the Entertainment Software Rating
Board (ESRB), the official organization for rating any
and all video games within the United States and Canada.
What is considered a violent video game?
To this day, Gamestop, Walmart, and Target require
an adult to be present when an M rated game is
purchased by a minor. This is not required by law.

What are the Parents Doing?
Aurora, Colo., movie theater gunman James Holmes, Jared Lee Loughner, who killed
six and injured 13, including Rep. Gabby Gifords, in a 2011 Arizona shooting, and
Breivik, who killed 77 people in Oslo, all were active video game players.

Lets Get More Technical


Media violence - specifically video games -
are not a major risk factorfor violence.
We did find rising links between media violence,
television violence, and short-term aggressive behavior.
But that is significantly differentfrom violent
behavior allegedly caused by playing video games...

So while the majority of people say that violent video games cause violence, there is little evidence supporting it.
