Education Outside of The Classroom (EOTC) at RCHK seeks to put students in unfamiliar situations that encourage independence of spirit and personal development. Through these experiences students will also gain a deeper understanding of their responsibilities as global citizens; responsibilities to themselves, others and the world they live in.

Dear Year 6 Parents,
As part of the holistic nature of our Primary Years Program and our school bedrock principles we have planned an International Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) experience in Laos for Year 6 students and an accompanying parent. This will be a 5 night, 6 day experiential learning experience, focusing on providing a service within the local community and experiencing a new culture. We will be liaising and working alongside CLI (Community Learning International). Our Year 6 students will be given the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities that will provide them with challenges that will enable them to move beyond their comfort zone and will support the transition from the PYP to MYP. It will provide students with a chance to be able to demonstrate their ability to live the IBO Learner Profile and Attitudes in what could be a very unfamiliar environment. Dates: The dates that your son/daughter will be attending the Laos Experience camp will be: 5 th , 6 th , 7 th , 8 th , 9 th & 10 th October, 2014
No refund will be available for students/adults who are absent from school on the day of the field trip.
Cost and Payment: The cost for the 6 days and 5 nights including flights and travel/accommodation/visa/insurance of 1 teacher will be $10, 542 HKD. $123 per person will be deducted from your childs e payment account for ESF Zurich insurance.
A cheque for $10,542HKD made payable to Renaissance College (please do not write RCHK). Please remember to put your childs name and class on the reverse side of the cheque. To be paid on or before Friday 5 th September cheque delivered to Mrs Wnek (room 303). Also send in a copy of your passport information (adult & Child) with your payment.
Parents Information Session We have scheduled a Parents Information Session to take place on Tuesday 30 th
September 2014 in 6TW from 3:30pm to 4:15pm. Mrs Wnek and Ms Morris will make a short presentation about the camp program and share the philosophy underpinning this experience. We hope that you can join us for this important session. We will also post relevant information about camp and what students need to bring on the Year 6 website at: http://y6.rchk.edu.hk.
Medical Forms / Immunization records (copy) I would like to ask parents to complete the medical form attached (one for the accompanying adult and your child) and return it to school with your payment. This will give us an up to date record of all students/parents medical needs whilst on camp. As a precaution we also require a photocopy of your sons / daughters immunization records. The reason we have asked for a copy of the immunization records is to ensure we have an informed medical record of your childs health and can give the appropriate medical treatment if necessary.
Medicines A number of students/parents will be in a situation where they are on a prescribed course of medication, or alternatively will need to have medicine with them as a precaution due to specific allergies etc. If this does apply to your child or accompanying adult can you please complete the following information and send this to your childs classroom teacher prior to departure to the camp:
Name of prescribed medication and its generic name. Reason for taking medication. Signs or symptoms teachers need to be aware of. Clearly specify the medication dosage and amount.
There are a number of students/parents who suffer from asthma and are treated for this condition by using an inhaler. Due to the nature of the camp, which includes hiking for example, each student who has this condition needs to ensure that they have access to their inhaler and they should keep the inhaler in their possession. If they have a preventative inhaler this too needs to be carried by the student. We would like students/parents to bring two inhalers so they have one and the teacher can also have one. This also applies to students/parents who require EpiPens for severe allergies.
If your son / daughter doe wears contact lenses can please ensure that they have spare lenses to use and a sufficient amount of cleaning solution. As a back up it is recommended that they also bring a pair of glasses with them.
The above information is very important if we need to treat you or your child in an emergency. We will be able to give medical experts current medical information for them to make an informed decision about the best treatment required in an emergency.
Electronics:
! Students may bring a camera on the trip, however due to the outdoor nature of many of the activities, cameras may only be brought at the students own risk.
! PSPs, iPods, iPads and any other forms of portable entertainment are permitted during travel times and spare time in the evenings (at parent or teacher discretions).
Kit A simple list of what to bring has been can be found on the Year 6 weebly to download. Please ensure that all personal items are clearly labelled. Please also ensure that your son / daughter takes the responsibility to pack his/her own bag and is fully aware of its contents.
