Philippines Lloyd and Marivic, and Charles and Roberta Selby MISSIONARIES May, 1983 5KSRCIS&S Featuring Aparri Bible Seminary The 29th CommencGment exercises of Aparri Bible Seminary were held on March 4, 1983, at the Aparri Church of Christ, with Lowell Applebury of Bakersfield, California, as guest speaker. Seven young men received diplomas and degrees, and seven girls their Christian Education certificates. Rogelio Guillermo (left), an outstanding student and preacher, was valedictorian of the class. He preached at the last chapel service of the Seminary. All these young men are now out preaching in various places. Harvey and Helen Beard were presented with a special Certificate of Appreciation for their three years of dedicated life and teaching at the Seminary. Their presence has been a great blessing to students and faculty alike, and they will be missed greatly. Music plays a big part inSeminary life. Mrs. Bella Tenorio's Voice Class presented a recital in February. The choirs and various small groups and soloists had a very successful Christmas concert, presented in Aparri and five other nearby Church es. Roberta taught a girls' trio and men's quartet which alternated at the two high schools for the Weeks of Evangelism in October and March. Above, Charles Selby presents the Certificates of Appreciation to Harvey and Helen Beard. : I! Federico rW "'' 'ft Bueno held his large Acts class in the dining hall, andHarvey Beard ^ ' taught Greek in the library. This shows the great need for more classroom space. More than 100 students were crowded into these and three other small classrooms this school year. As soon as the architect finishes the blueprints and a permit to build is granted, construction will begin on the new Seminary building. The property is paid for, fenced, and materials are being gathered. This will be a two-story building with a large chapel, library, recording room and music practice rooms, as well as six large classrooms. It will provide some room for growth in our Top left, Harvey Beard in the student body. All of the 34 children took part in the unusual and lovely ceremony except the babies. Now the n children havean Uncle Bert to helpAuntie Mary incaringfor them, and he isfitting in ^ very well. He had the opportunity to really get to knowthe hcildren when Mary had to gone for a month in March. Little three-year-old Homy developed encephalitis and ^ ^ airlifted by U.S. rescue helicopter to Clark Air Force Base, where he and Mary I spent a monthwhile he was given very wonderful treatment in theBasehospital. How lhankful we were for this help and care from our U.S. government for a little Filipino boy in desperate need. Romy is back home and improving daily as he learns all over again to eat, walk, talk, etc. He seems very alert and we trust God to continue to heal him. , This is Sammy, who had avery bad hare-lip, and has had two operations ffi |||S8||^ to correct it. Awonderful doctor in Manila performed thesewithout charge. K] Mary also has two little girls with cerebral palsy, and she has received help with their therapy through the Elk's Club. H The oldest child in the home, Minda, graduated from high school at k . ' Northern Isabela Academy and will be a student in Aparri Bible Seminary P' next year. Her brother, Ariel, attended SIA.
