Featuring Aparri Bible Seminary
The 29th CommencGment exercises of Aparri Bible Seminary were held
on March 4, 1983, at the Aparri Church of Christ, with Lowell Applebury of
Bakersfield, California, as guest speaker. Seven young men received diplomas
and degrees, and seven girls their Christian Education certificates. Rogelio
Guillermo (left), an outstanding student and preacher, was valedictorian of the
class. He preached at the last chapel service of the Seminary. All these young
men are now out preaching in various places.
Harvey and Helen Beard were presented with
a special Certificate of Appreciation for their three
years of dedicated life and teaching at the Seminary.
Their presence has been a great blessing to students
and faculty alike, and they will be missed greatly.
Music plays a big part inSeminary life. Mrs. Bella
Tenorio's Voice Class presented a recital in
February. The choirs and various small groups and
soloists had a very successful Christmas concert,
presented in Aparri and five other nearby Church
es. Roberta taught a girls' trio and men's quartet
which alternated at the two high schools for the
Weeks of Evangelism in October and March.
Above, Charles Selby presents the Certificates
of Appreciation to Harvey and Helen Beard.

classroom space. More than 100 students were crowded into these
and three other small classrooms this school year.
As soon as the architect finishes the blueprints and a permit to
build is granted, construction will begin on the new Seminary
building. The property is paid for, fenced, and materials are being
gathered. This will be a two-story building with a large chapel,
library, recording room and music practice rooms, as well as six
large classrooms. It will provide some room for growth in our

Northern Isabela Academy. Bible classes were taught every

continuing to bless this ministry as a tool of evangelism.
An irrigation well at NIA ismaking it possible tohavecontinuing crops, as well as a new fish pond, which
will be a blessing to the school as well as to the community.
Romeo and Mercy Gorospe
Romeo and Mercy Gorospe and three daughters arrived inManila on March 10, from Hawaii, where
they had ministered to the Waipahu church for eleven months. Exactlya month later, April 10, Romeo
Gorospe, Jr., was born to themhere inAparri. Romeoand Mercy are happy to be back home again, and
are looking forward eagerly to what the Lord has for themto dohere inHis workin the yearsahead. Mercy
will resume her work in the office later, and Romeo will be working full-time in the fields of evangelism and
radio. We praise God for them and look forward to working with them here. Romeo did a good job as
manager of Senior camp in April.
Cagayan Valley Children's Home
On December 11, 1982, Mary Pruitt, director of the CVCH, became of wife of
Gilbert Bureros, from Cebu. Ray Carlson performed the ceremony with Charles
rK^vT^ Selby assisting. Mary's parents, Bobby and Jean Pruitt, andNaomiGoode came
\ n Grants Pass, Oregon, and Bert's family from Cebu, as well as Carlsons and
A Dclmar Debaults from Cebu and Charles Littells from Davao. All of the 34
children took part in the unusual and lovely ceremony except the babies. Now the
n children havean Uncle Bert to helpAuntie Mary incaringfor them, and he isfitting in
^ very well. He had the opportunity to really get to knowthe hcildren when Mary had to
gone for a month in March. Little three-year-old Homy developed encephalitis and
^ ^ airlifted by U.S. rescue helicopter to Clark Air Force Base, where he and Mary
I spent a monthwhile he was given very wonderful treatment in theBasehospital. How
lhankful we were for this help and care from our U.S. government for a little
Filipino boy in desperate need. Romy is back home and improving daily as he learns all
over again to eat, walk, talk, etc. He seems very alert and we trust God to continue to
heal him. ,
This is Sammy, who had avery bad hare-lip, and has had two operations ffi |||S8||^
to correct it. Awonderful doctor in Manila performed thesewithout charge. K]
Mary also has two little girls with cerebral palsy, and she has received help
with their therapy through the Elk's Club. H
The oldest child in the home, Minda, graduated from high school at k . '
Northern Isabela Academy and will be a student in Aparri Bible Seminary P'
next year. Her brother, Ariel, attended SIA. Not all the children respond as \
we would like. Two older boys have recently chosen to leave the home SHhk y
rather than obey the rules. We continue to pray for them, and Mary has told
them they can return whenever they like, but that they must obey the rules. jlSi- I

many of our high school teachers. Charles taught Colossians, and
Roberta taught Philippians to this group. April 11-16 was the DVBS Clinic, with 51 women and girls here. A
number of teams have now gone out to teach, and will be teaching somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000
children during the summer. April 29-May 1 the Cagayan Valley Convention was held in Aparri with over
250 in attendance. Junior and Intermediate camps are the middle of May. Many students and preachers are
busy in various evangelistic meetings, rallies, and general evangelistic work.
Update on Missionaries
Lloyd and Marivic Selby left April 17 for furlough. It is nearly four years ago that Lloyd arrived on a
business trip and visit, and the Lord laid it upon his heart to stay and fill a great need in administration of the
over-all work. They are available for speaking on behalf of the Lord's work in Northern Luzon, and can be
