When checking oil level remove dipstick and wipe with a lint free cloth. Replace dipstick insuring that ,
it is all the way in and locked. Remove dipstick and check oil level, fill to mark as indicated. ]
Use only lubricating oils conforming to TCM specification MHS-24C or D, lubricating oil, ashless
dispersant. The marketers of the aviation lubricating oils listed betow have sup, plied data to TCM
indicating their products conform to all the requirements of TCM Specification MHS-24C or D.
In listing the product names, TCM makes no claim of verification of marketers statementsor claims.
Listing is made in the order in which the data was received by TCM and is provided only for the
convenience of the users.
NOTE . . . Since the airframe manufacturer furnishes certain parts which depend on engine oil for
lubrication, they may restrict the use of some lubricating oils.

*NOTE . . . This does not include X/C II Aviation Oil.
NOTE . . . The following procedures and schedules are recommended for engines which are
subjected to normal operation. If the aircraft is exposed to severe conditions, such as training,
extreme weather, or infrequent operation, inspections should be more comprehensive and the
hourly intervals should be decreased.
To promote faster ring seating and oil control, a straight mineral oil conforming to MIL-L-6082
should be used for the first 25 hours of operation of a new, rebuilt or overhauled engine. Following
this period we recommend changing to an ashless dispersant oil conforming to TCM Specification
MHS-24C or D. Since there is a possibility of widely dispersed metal flakes and lint showing up in the
first oil change, we recommend that the oil filter also be changed at this time.
WARNING . . . Many new aircraft are delivered with a corrosion preventive oil conforming to MIL-C-
6529 Type II which is a straight mineral oil with a corrosion preventive compound added. Since this
type oil can cause engine coking wlth extetded use, it should not be used after the first 25 hours of
operation, or 6 months, whichever comes first.
22 JuIy 1986
Page 3
The recommended oil change interval on engines without full flow oil filters is every 25 hours of
operation depending on dust, humidity and engine condition, or every six months, whichever comes
first. When using larger (approximately 5.80 high) full flow oil filters, the recommended number of
operating hours between oil changes and filters can be increased to 100 hours. However, on engines
equipped with smaller full flow filters (approximately 4.80 high) the filter should be changed each
50 hours.
The above recommendations apply to engines which incorporate the oil filters approved and
supplied by TCM.
With respect to Continental engine Model W670-23 after each 100 hours of operation, check the
battery ignition distributor drive adapter for oil supply. The adapter should carry 20 to 30CC
(approximately one fluid ounce) of Lubri-Plate No. 8 or SAE No. 600W oil. Inspect and fill through the
upper adapter plug.
On engines so equipped, the oil screen must be inspected and cleaned at each oil change. This fine
mesh screen filters out carbon and other particles from the lubricating system.
Full flow filters should be opened and inspected for contaminants at each filter change.
New engines frequently show widely dispersed metal flakes and lint on the first oil changes. This
should begin to progressively diminish and finally disappear after a few oil changes. However, if
large amounts of metal are apparent on any oil change, it is an indication of possible malfunction and
should be investigated thoroughly.
There are many fuel and oil additives and/or concentrates on the market today which were
formulated primarily for automotive and industrial engine applications. From time to time, we
receive inquiries as to the use of these products in our aircraft engines. Most of these additives and
concentrates, while they may be highly beneficial to automotive and industrial operation, are not
compatible with air-cooled, light aircraft engines in their operating environments. With the
exception of the use of isopropyl alcohol and ethylene glycol monomethyl ether compound as
described in the following paragraph, we do not recommend the use of additives or concentrates in
any of our aircraft engines. In fact, the use of such can be cause for voiding the warranty. Use only
fuels and lubricants as recommended herein and in current engine operating manuals.
Under certain ambient conditions of temperature/humidity, water can be supported in the fuel in
sufficient quantities to create restrictive ice formation along various segments of fuel system. To
alleviate the possibility of this occurring, it is permissible to add Isopropyl Alcohol to the.fuel supply
in quantities not to exceed 3 percent of the total. Also, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether com-
pounds conforming to military specification MIL-I-27686E, if approved for use in the aircraft fuel
system by the aircraft manufacturer, may be added for this purpose. The ethylene glycol
monomethyl ether compound must be carefully mixed with the fuel in concentrations not to exceed
0.15 percent by volume.
WARNING . . . Mixing of the EGME compound wlth the fuel Is extremely Important because concen-
tration In excess of that recommended (0.15 percent volume maximum) can have a harmful effect on
engine components. Use only blending equipment that Is recommended by the manufacturer to
obtain proper proportioning.
All TCM aircraft engines are to be operated only on aviation grade fuel. If the specified fuel is not
available, the next higher grade fuel must be used. For further information with respectto useof low
lead grade 100 fuel in engines rated on grade 80, see TCM Service Bulletin M77-3.

WARNING . . , Automotive fuels are NOT TCM APPROVED for use In aircraft engines.
