Pre-Instructional Planning:
The thought process that leads to the development of
quality,
meaningful lesson plans
Guiding questions that will provide the framework for the lesson. (Respond to each question.)
Who will you be teaching? (Identify student grade level as well as academic functioning level and specific needs of individual
students)
Will be teaching teachers at the high school level.
Who (if anybody) will assist with the presentation of this lesson, and what will their role be?
No one will be assisting.
What prerequisite skills/knowledge will students need to effectively access and participate in this lesson?

When within the stages of learning will this lesson be presented? (Is it a learning acquisition lesson, learning fluency lesson,
learning maintenance lesson, or learning generalization lesson?)
This is a learning generalization lesson.
When will this lesson be completed? (Will it be a one-day lesson or a multiple day lesson?)
This will take three days.
Where should this lesson be presented to ensure maximum student access and participation? (computer lab, classroom, science
lab…) AND
This will take place in a computer lab.
Why are you planning to teach this lesson? Why must this information/skill be presented to the students?

maximum, minimum, and sum of a range of numbers.
Assessment Plan
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)
Students will create their own spreadsheet and test it by presenting it to the class.
Materials:
Enrichment Techniques: NA
Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able
to participate in the lesson): Handouts and/or video, website references.
Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set: Show examples in Microsoft Excel of what can be done in the
classroom with the software.
1. Show users basic Excel features. Where to find certain things and each grouping in the ribbon.
2. Create a blank spreadsheet and name it.
3. Start by entering text and formatting.
4. Overview of formulas.
5. Create the input portion and lock all other cells.
6. Create and format the cells that will contain the formulas and answers.
7. Save and test the spreadsheet.
Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities
Users will be making a spreadsheet that calculates the average, median, mode, count, maximum,
minimum and sum of a range of numbers input by students.
