We humans didnt actually start out farming foods and crops for ourselves.

In fact, we used to
have a nomadic lifestyle and go hunting and gathering, but suddenly we started to cultivate food
deliberately. As it said on page 5, If the 150,000 years since modern humans emerged are likened to
one hour; it is only in the last four and a half minutes that humans began to adopt farming. Similar to
the theory of evolution, food had its own style, through being genetically modified. Maize, or corn, is an
example of a food that has been genetically modified. Maize wasnt always the delicious, juicy, piquant
snack as it is now. It once was just as small as a number 2 pencil. It was called teosinte. Teosinte went
through many modifications to get to where it is today. A gene called tga1 controls the size of glumes,
and a gene called tb1 controls the ears and tassels themselves. For the plant itself, it means bad news
because fertilization is much more difficult, resulting in the plants depending on humans to be
reproduced. Rice and wheat are also genetically modified foods. Both of them now have what is called
tough rachis which makes it much harder for them to reproduce. Humans become more dependent
on the new crops and vice versa. There are also myth versions, of the scientific genetically modified
sides including the Aztecs and Chinese myths. Could there still be teosinte or proto-maize plants out
there?
