Drilling Hazards in Unstable Wellbores
Drilling Events
Tight hole & pack-offs
Stuck pipe
Kicks & mud losses
Consequences
Excessive reaming & wiper trips
Fishing & lost in hole
Sidetracks
Difficulty running casing
Safe window pore pressure to fracture gradient
Requires immediate response during all drilling operations
Stable window shear failure to fracture gradient
Primarily affects tripping need to understand locations and causes

Wellbore Quality Services
Wellbore quality services provide 24/7, real-time surface monitoring and
analysis of a range of drilling parameters related to pore pressure, hole
cleaning, and wellbore stability to help:
identify drilling risks and operational issues early
use predictive models and real-time data to improve operational
performance
minimize NPT and invisible lost time (ILT)
increase drilling efficiency and reduce overall costs.

Comments: Maximize ROP to assure good hole cleaning and assess risk of hole problems related to cuttings transport.
Part 1: Critical ROP is around 6 m/h. Increase in ROP induces
reduction in cuttings flow.
Part 2: ROP under critical value, cuttings flow responds directly
with ROP variation. Increase in ROP means rise in cuttings
production.
Phase: 8 in Synchronize Data between ROP and Cutting Flow
Case study: Minimize Off-bottoms Time

FLAG Case Study: Gain Detection Versus Flow Paddle
The differential flow out is much
more accurate than the standard
flow paddle.
FLAG Case Study: Gain Detection Versus Pit Volume
The differential flow out is
increasing 5 minutes before
active volume.

Processed flow out
Mud flow back to the active pit makes
the influx volume quantification difficult
while the cumulated FLAG volume is very
accurate.
