Fall Harvest Apple Bake Off and Roast Beef Luncheon
Join us on Wednesday, September 10th for our
5th Annual Apple Bake Off. NEW this year, we
will be combining the Apple Bake-Off with a roast
beef lunch! Once again our wonderful Beckwith
Butcher Rob Carpenter will be cooking our meat
on the smokers.
All submissions for the Apple Bake off are due no
later than 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Private
judging will begin at 11:00 a.m. and winners will
be announced after the luncheon. Everyone will
have a chance to enjoy the tasty apple desserts as
we will be serving them for dessert. Prizes will be
awarded based on points given by the judges for
eye appeal, apple essence and best overall taste.
Encourage friends and family to submit their BEST
apple dessert recipe!
Dont forget to sign up in advance as seating is
limited and the event is open to outside guests.
Walking Across Canada
Weve cleared the East Coast and the Province of
Quebec
Congratulations to all Community Members as you
have walked very quickly across the entire East Coast
of Canada. I hope many of you have enjoyed your
trek and took the opportunity to read your travel
guide located on each floor in the red duotangs.
Join us @3:00 on Wednesday, September 24th as we
celebrate our trip through the Maritimes, celebrating
with good food, music and friends.
As we travel through Ontario, be sure to keep in
mind the changing weather. Lets hope for an Indian
Summer and really enjoy the beauty of the autum
colors our province has to offer.
Dont forget to sign up in advance as seating is limited
and the event is open to outside guests.
Senior of the Year
Every October 1st the Waterside hosts the Senior of the
Year Award for the Town of Carleton Place. Each year,
seniors living within the town limits can be nominated by
friends, family or accquaintances. Each nominee needs 2
letters of recommondation stating why they feel their
nominee should be Senior of the Year.
A nominating committee is formed to review all
nominations . The committee looks for a senior who
goes above & beyond in Carleton Place, volunteers
their time for the betterment of others & is committed
volunteering in the community.
If you are interested in nominating someone, please
see Patty for more information.
Yet again another wonderful event was held at the
Waterside with Community Members and guests,
giving us a grand total of 150 people in attendance
for our corn roast and peach cobbler dinner. Many
hands were on board early that morning to shuck
320 cobs of corn, roll 15lbs of cold cuts, lug chairs
and tables. The event began on time with everyone
filing in to the gym to enjoy entertainment by the
Diplomats who did not disappoint. Following the
meal delivery the Bowes Brothers took the stage
for the first time ever at Waterside. The boys
played many toe tapping good songs and even had
our Community Director join in with the spoons.
Andy Bowes, the youngest brother of the Bowes
Brother, showed off his talents of yodeling which
amazed many!
Thank you to all
