Study Period Expectations

The following points indicate the Colleges expectations of senior students during study periods.

Study periods are not free periods. Students should regard these times as a benefit, allowing extra
opportunities for study and completion of assignment work during the school day.

Many students do not have the advantage of a quiet, uninterrupted environment for study purposes
at home, and the College aims to provide and maintain this for all students. The expectations set
out here are also intended to encourage a sense of self-discipline and application in senior students,
essential qualities that need to be practiced and reinforced.

The register of attendance in study periods doubles as a contract, whereby the student, in providing
a signature, agrees to comply with the expectations set out below. Non-compliance will result in a
report to the Year Coordinator.

Senior students are required to:

Report to the Study Centre and have their attendance recorded
Obtain permission from the Study Centre teacher if you need to work in the Library
Work silently and individually no discussion or group work permitted in either the Study
Centre or the Library
Remain in the Study Centre or Library for the duration of the period
Register work requiring computer access in the Library with the Teacher Librarian use of
a computer is not guaranteed.

Desired Qualities of a Senior Leader

The Student Leaders are encouraged to:

have an interest in their specific area of responsibility
demonstrate good communication skills
be empowered through initiative and participation

Role of a Senior Leader

Work collaboratively with Mentors, Captains, Leaders and students from other years in
organising specific activities

Role of the College Captains

Act as Chairperson and Captain of the Portfolios, in collaboration with the College Vice-
Captain (Portfolio)
Act as spokesperson and representative of the students within the College community

Co-ordinate the Leadership body and chair Portfolio Captains meetings
Assist with and take an active part in College activities and functions
Liaise between students and College Leadership team,/mentors and staff
