PROCEDURES:

This week we worked on updating forms
and reflecting on current procedures and
protocols.

Administrative Staff developed several new
forms including:
An arrest report that will improve
our process for gathering pertinent
identification and incident
information to ensure compliance
with data practice requirements.
An evidence/property report that is
now in use streamlining the
documentation and retention of
stolen and recovered property and
evidence. The form contains
directions for crime victims about
sending information regarding
additional stolen propery or incident
details to our staff via email.
A Warrant Request form that will be
sent to prosecutors outlining
requested charges for suspects and
providing a format to get feedback
from prosecutors regarding followup
needed from our staff and/or
detailing actual charges.

Les Peterson visited the police department
and we discussed the alteration of some of
our workspace for evidence intake,
processing, and report preparation. The
alteration will better utilize the current squad
room by adding a conference room table and
open up space for equipment storage and
officer briefings. We also discussed some
steps we will be taking to spruce up our
exterior entry area giving it a more
welcoming and professional appearance.
This week, our staff discussed tactics related
to identifying and responding to residential
addresses that are generating repeat
calls for service and causing
neighborhood issues. We have begun
to look at these specific problem areas
and are currently working on response
plans to try to reduce the number of
calls for service and neighborhood
impact. We also took some time to
learn ways to better uilize out records
management system and CAD system
to quantify and analyze targeted crimes
(primarily burglaries and car break-
ins) and engage a process of mapping
these crimes to focus patrol efforts and
investigative strategies.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

Detective Randall and Sergeant Palmer
will be attending three one-week long
leadership/management classes during
September, October and November.
The classes lead to the completion of
the course: Leadership in Police
Organizations. The course is well
known as a leadership and succession
building program.

PATROL/DETECTIVES:

Our officers took several reports of
vandalism and graffiti in the West End
area over the past week. We will be
working on identifying a suspect in
this.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steven K. Stracek
Chief of Police
