Course Description

This is a two day workshop (with an optional third day) that features a comprehensive practical programme
with hands-on experience under direct supervision of experienced Gynaecological Surgeons. Detailed videos of
procedures and a high quality modern video link to live surgery will also give insight into the various advanced
techniques and nuances of operative hysteroscopy, including transcervical resections.

The main aim for the workshop is to achieve advanced level competency which equate to being able to
perform endometrial ablation using resection technique. The course will also focus on the safety aspect of
advanced hysteroscopic surgery. Delegates will also have the opportunity to discuss, debate and network.

Aimed at

Consultant Gynaecologists, SAS doctors and trainees wishing to enhance their operative hysteroscopic skills.
Trainees who have registered or plan to register for relevant ATSM.
Nurse Hysteroscopists and GPs with a special interest.

The techniques of trans-cervical resection of
endometrium (TCRE), fibroids (TCRF) and polyps
(TCRP) using bipolar technology

Second generation non-hysteroscopic

Practical Programme Three x days of comprehensive & intensive hands-on practice

1. HystSim Simulator Session on Hysteroscopic resection
2. MyoSure Simulator Session
3. Essure Simulator Session on hysteroscopic sterilisation
4. Olympus Wet Lab on Bipolar Resection using the Potato model
5. Ethicon Wet Lab on Bipolar Resection using prepared live cattle uteri
6. Ethicon Wet Lab on Versapoint Polypectomy using prepared pig bladder

Each delegate will have hands-on time dedicated to each practical session. These comprehensive
practical sessions will be small group based with emphasis on practical skills training covering essential
competencies of:
1. Equipment assembly
2. Camera and telescope orientation
3. Hand-eye coordination
4. Distension medium (saline and glycine)
5. Active / passive operative hysteroscopy
6. Safe use of electro-surgery
7. Troubleshooting

Optional 3
rd
day - Live Surgery Programme will include
1. TCRE/TCRF/TCRP
2. Novasure ablation
3. Thermachoice ablation

Each delegate will also have hands-on time dedicated to a BONUS practical session on second
generation ablation techniques led by industry leaders and experts in ablation.
