Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering.
Measurement and Data
Solve problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time,
liquid volumes, and masses of objects.
Represent and interpret data.
Geometric measurement: understand concepts of area and relate area to
multiplication and addition.
Geometric measurement: recognize perimeter as an attribute of plane
figures and distinguish between linear and area measures.

Grade Enrichment Activities
Problem of the Month- Third graders will collaboratively solve challenging word
problems that relate to real-life situations.
Enrichment Units- Students will work various enrichment units throughout the
school year. Third grade enrichment units include Aestheometry, Pentominoes,
Units, and Terapin Logo: Exploring with the Turtle. Enrichment units are designed
to help promote critical thinking, foster creativity, and build technology skills.

EPP CLASSROOM OVERIVEW
MATH RESOURCES:
Students will have the following resources available to assist them with their homework.

Stepping Stones Workbook
Graded homework, pretests, quizzes

Third graders will be issued a 2 pocket EPP folders.
Take Home Goes home on Monday with Weekly assignment and comes back by Friday
with completed Assignment
School Work Stays in classroom for individual activities and independent work.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:
Homework will be passed out every Monday and is due on Friday. Homework is assigned to
help students review concepts and prepare for tests.
HOMEWORK HELP:
Reinforce good study habits by setting a time on a weekly or daily basis to check your childs
homework completion. Homework should not be started the day before it is due.
If your son or daughter is struggling with a homework assignment, please encourage him
or her to try one of the following.
Use the glossary at the front of your Stepping Stones workbook for
definitions/examples.
Visit Mrs. Turners website for tutorials, videos, and games

Ask Mrs. Turner for help on homework questions at the beginning of class.
STUDYING FOR TESTS/QUIZZES:
Students will be given time to prepare for tests/quizzes. Your child can review for a test
by looking over graded pre-assessments and homework assignments. Before the test a
packet of graded work will be sent home to review.

BUILDING FACT FLUENCY:
Third graders should be working on their fact fluency on a regular basis. This is a pivotal
year for developing a strong math foundation. Students can use flash cards, math
games, or math apps to practice their multiplication/division skills at home.
GRADES:
Students will be assessed on their effort, growth, and mastery of the common core state
standards in the following categories:
Numbers and Operations in Base Ten
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Measurement and Data
Geometry
Numbers and Operations, Fractions
Students will be rated on a scale shown below. Ratings for each category could vary quarter to
quarter depending on the standard we are working on in class.
5- Exceeds or deepening application
4- Meets- Is secure in grade level standards
3- Progressing- Requires support/and or intervention in grasping standards that
are at or near current grade level
2- Below- Requires support/ and/or intervention in grasping standards
NE- Not Enough Evidence collected at this time to assess
NA- Not Assessed at this time
SCHOOL & HOME COMMUNICATION:
EPP newsletters will be sent home every 6 to 8 weeks. Newsletters will include our next
curriculum focus, EPP updates, unit vocabulary, learning targets, and common core state
standards that we are working on the classroom.
