CoMMuNioN rnoM 1ur Cunticr wurN Sick As we approach the colder months and occurrences of colds and u, a reminder to everyone to consider the wellbeing of your fellow parishioners.
If you are not feeling well, we would respecully ask you to please refrain from receiving Communion from the Chalice during Mass. FnoM 1ur Pns1ons Drsk Expectaons are dangerous things!
Whether we impose them on ourselves or on others, expectaons have the capacity to tend towards disappointment, largely because the nature of real life is not taken into account. If we have invested too much of ourselves in the expectaons we have of ourselves or others, disappointment can quickly turn towards anger and animosity, which in turn can be destrucve.
At the very heart of the Chrisan life is a focus not on expectaonof ourselves, others, or even Godbut a surrender to God and the power of Gods grace to move in us and our lives. The nature of the Holy Spirit, whose giing to the Church we celebrate today on the feast of Pentecost, is such that we cannot control how the Spirit is acvely manifested in the life of the Church and Chrisans. This means, in other words, any expectaons we have of how the Holy Spirit will work for us are just begging to be proved otherwise.
The one thing we can be certain of, and that because it was promised by Jesus himself, is that the Holy Spirit will be alive and acve in the life of the Church.
And that is what we celebrate today on the Feast of Pentecost...and each and every me we celebrate the Sacramental life of the Church.
Come Holy Spirit, ll the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the re of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolaons. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
A happy Pentecost to you all.
Unl next week... Fr Andrew Tur Crtrnnn1ioN or CoNrinMn1ioN The Sacrament of Conrmaon will be celebrated on Friday 13th June with Bishop Bill beginning at 7pm. All welcome.
A rehearsal for the Conrmaon liturgy will take place on Wednesday 11th June at 7pm in the Forster church. Bisuors OrrN Lr11rn As menoned last weekend, the Bishop has released an open leer to the people of the Diocese in response to the release of the Report of the Special Commission of Inquiry.
A limited number of copies of this open leer are available in the churches this weekend, and it is also available for downloading or reading on the Parish and Diocesan websites.
I would appreciate if those parishioners who are able to access the leer on the internet are able to do so, and so leave the printed copies for those who cant. The purpose of this meeng is to form a Grief Support Group who will meet on a regular basis to support each other through prayer, sharing, listening, understanding and being there for one another. Sharing with other people can help reduce the sense of isolaon and aloneness that comes with grief and can be of great benet to anyone dealing with their grief.
An external facilitator has been found to help the group become established (details on that next week).

Yrs 1o 1ur Nrw Rrtn1ioNsuir Bnoucu1 Bv Cunis1 The Chrisan ideal will always be a summons to overcome suspicion, habitual mistrust, fear of losing our privacy, all the defensive atudes which todays world imposes on us. Many try to escape from others and take refuge in the comfort of their privacy or in a small circle of close friends, renouncing the realism of the social aspect of the Gospel. For just as some people want a purely spiritual Christ, without esh and without the cross, they also want their interpersonal relaonships provided by sophiscated equipment, by screens and systems which can be turned on and o on command. Meanwhile, the Gospel tells us constantly to run the risk of a faceto face encounter with others, with their physical presence which challenges us, with their pain and their pleas, with their joy which infects us in our close and connuous interacon. True faith in the incarnate Son of God is inseparable from selfgiving, from membership in the community, from service, from reconciliaon with others. The Son of God, by becoming esh, summoned us to the revoluon of tenderness.
Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 88.

The Spiritual Exercises are all the best that I have been able to think out, experience and understand in this life, both for helping somebody to make the most of themselves, and also for being able to bring advantage, help and prot to many others. So, even if you dont feel the need for the rst, you will see that they are much more helpful than you might have imagined for the second. (Ignaus Ep. 10:1)

This of course does not mean that a Chrisan can comprehend all things and have full knowledge of the designs of God: all of this waits to be revealed in all its clarity once we stand in the sight of God and are truly one with Him. However, as the very word suggests, understanding allows us to "intus legere", or "to read inwardly": this gi enables us to understand things as God understands them, with the mind of God. For one can understand a situaon with human understanding, with prudence, and this is good. But to understand a situaon in depth, as God understands it, is the eect of this gi. And Jesus desired to send us the Holy Spirit so that we might have this gi, so that all of us might understand things as God understands them, with the mind of God. What a beauful gi the Lord has given us. It is the gi with which the Holy Spirit introduces us into inmacy with God and makes us sharers in the plan of love which he has for us.
