This course introduces students to inform ation and com m unication technology in a business environm ent and
builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students
will develop an understanding of the functions of business, with em phasis on m anagem ent, m arketing,
inform ation and com m unication technology, and of the im portance of ethics and social responsibility.
Throughout the course, there is an em phasis on digital literacy, effective electronic research and
com m unication skills, and current issues related to the im pact of inform ation and com m unication technoloy.

This course further exposes students to inform ation and com m unication technology in a business environm ent

BAF3M 0 GRADE 11, FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING FUNDAM ENTALS - University/College


This course introduces students to the fundam ental principles and procedures of accounting. Students will
develop financial analysis and decision-m aking skills that will assist them in future studies and/or career
opportunities in business. Students will acquire an understanding of accounting for a service and a
m erchandising business, com puterized accounting, financial analysis, and current issues and ethics in
accounting.

The courses are offered for student selection. If not enough students select a course it will not “run”. 23
BDI3C0 GRADE 11, ENTREPRENEURSHIP: THE VENTURE - College
This course focuses on ways in which entrepreneurs recognize opportunities, generate ideas, and organize
resources to plan successful ventures that enable them to achieve their goals. Students will create a venture
plan for a student-run school-based or sum m er business. Through hands-on experiences, students will have
opportunities to develop the values, traits, and skills m ost often associated with successful entrepreneurs.

CLU3M 0 GRADE 11, UNDERSTANDING CANADIAN LAW - University/College


This course explores legal issues that directly affect students’ lives. To develop an appreciation of the
Canadian legal system , students exam ine the historical roots of Canadian law and expand on their
understanding of the role of governm ent in m aking laws. Students also becom e fam iliar with the rights and
freedom s that all Canadians enjoy as a result of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom s. Students
acquire a practical knowledge of Canada’s legal system , both crim inal and civil, and learn how to analyse legal
issues. They are given opportunities to: develop inform ed opinions on legal issues, defend those opinions
and com m unicate legal knowledge in a variety of ways and settings, including: legal research projects, m ock
trials, field trips and debates.

BAT4M 0 GRADE 12,FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES - University/College


This course introduces students to advanced accounting principles that will prepare them for post-secondary
studies in business. Students will learn about financial statem ents for various form s of business ownership
and how those statem ents are interpreted in m aking business decisions. This course further develops
accounting m ethods for assets and introduces accounting for partnerships, corporations, and sources of
financing. Prerequisite: BAF3M

BOG4E0 GRADE 12, BUSINESS LEADERSHIP: BECOM ING A M ANAGER - W orkplace


This course helps students prepare for m anagerial positions in their future careers. Students will focus on the
developm ent of core skills required to becom e a successful m anager, including operations m anagem ent,
inventory control, m arketing, financial planning, scheduling, and com m unication. Students will also explore
the m anagem ent challenges of hiring, training, and m otivating em ployees, and com plying with legal
requirem ents.

CLN4U0 GRADE 12, CANADIAN AND INTERNATIONAL LAW - University


This course explores elem ents of Canadian law and the role of law in social, political, and global contexts.
Students will learn about the connections between the historical and philosophical sources of law and issues
in contem porary society. They will learn to analyse legal issues, conduct independent research, and
com m unicate the results of their inquiries in a variety of ways.

IDC4U0 GRADE 12, BUSINESS M ANAGEM ENT FOR THE GLOBAL ECONOM Y - University
This course is designed to give students an introduction to international business from a m anagem ent
perspective. Students will be introduced to the challenges involved in a venture start-up and then they will
apply these entrepreneurial concepts to the international arena. In so doing, they will investigate the global
environm ent for business, with special attention to the im plications of culture. Students will also learn about
the unique aspects of m arketing - the challenges, approaches, and channels of distribution - when operating
in an international venue. Case studies of successful Canadian businesses operating in international m arkets
will provide practical exam ples of the theory covered, as will research projects on local businesses with
international m arkets.
